thanks for the heads up!!! for that price I will definitely go neutral.

a question,

will other stores price match?

for example will Sears price match plus 10%?

You guys are killing me! Going neutral means you'll be buying HD-DVD discs as well. This in turn boosts the HD-DVD sales numbers, which may prolongue the format war and make certain studios indecisive. Why would you want to do that?

Toshiba have no faith that there machines can sell for a profit so they want to give them away. Madness.

Also lets imagine if Toshiba actually won the format war. Why would another manufacturer produce a machine knowing that Toshiba would totally under-cut them. They would tell Toshiba to go **** themselves and keep their format, we will stick with DVD.

Of course this is not going to happen.

that is what Toshiba is counting on but here is the problem..no OTHER CE company will be able to make HD DVD players cheaper and sell them $180.00 and make any Money...thats what the other CE companies have stayed out ..there is no money for CE companies to make HD DVD player's..1080i has pretty much killed any chance for 1080p HD DVD player's for any other CE company to make those HD DVD players...Oknyo after this stunt expect them to make a ton of
HD DVD players...

trust me I wanted to stay blu exclusive but that price was the last straw, there are several titles exclusive to hd-dvd and at that price point I can no longer deny them to myself.

sorry!!!

Sony really needs to get off their butts and do something quick before it's too late.

my mom wanted to get into hd and guess which one she's going to purchase!

I dunno, toshiba, sony, magnavox, rca, it's all made in China.

Check out J.D Power and associates.

Toshiba outperforms Sony in ratings in RPTV's. Toshiba outperforms panasonic in LCD's.

I couldn't find component reviews but imagine it would be the same. Just because it's cheap doesn't mean it is trash.

Cnet.com lists 3 standalone bd players as 7.4 whereas the A2 is 7.3.

It just comes across as a belittling method to try and knock them down.

To make things worse, this deal also seem to be eligable for the 5-free hd-dud movies ... Pffff
look a rdjam post he says he framed a head stone with blu-ray
2006-2007...what funny is those same people that call the BDA arrogant right now are looking real stupid. since when no other CE company will not make HD DVD player's after this little stunt. so live it up....have fun

Toshiba is burning out in a big way...after jan 08 Daewoo 2.0 players are going to hit the market..smoke whats left of your cig's because HD DVD is heading to the fireing squad

my whole thing is reliability....and when I go to local stores, I frequently see Toshiba HDTV's as open box buy's or things that are similar because they have been returned or refurbished...

great picture quality is one thing...but product durability is another...

edit: also, I thought Sony was in Japan?..

Default HD DVD + Toshiba are getting desperate!

Hi all!

This is the first post i have created on here but i have just been flicking through engadget and found this

http://www.engadget.com/2007/11/01/t...iday-wal-mart/

Toshiba HD A2 DVD player for less than $100!

Could the price war become the defining factor in this war?

Sorry if this has been posted originally, but i hadn't seen it!

Cheers!

Nah, people pay a premium for a quality name like Onkyo all the time. Some people buy a no name dvd player, others pay a premium for a Denon or Onkyo.

how many are they going to Sell..and since they are also putting out a Blu-Ray player which do you think out of the two will sell more players...remember with the majority of HD DVD "1080i is just as good as 1080p"

This is it folks. Toshiba is dumping them. The end of the war is in sight and blu-ray will stand victorious.

That wasn't the question. The statement was the CE's weren't going to make any.

It's just sad that some people that have no clue That Blu is dominating the Hi Def world will be buying a HORRIBLE player that only supports 1080i and will prob break soon then not having any movies to buy because every studio will soon be Blu ray exclusive. A Shame, Toshiba your a disgrace, and just pitiful.

Are you kidding me? You don't think Wal-Mart has a deal for POS rebates or something? There is no way they are going to eat the costs on a format they were going to DUMP back in August. Toshiba begged them not to drop HD DVD and my guess one of their talking points was they would GIVE them a great deal with these cheap players.

Trust me, I deal with this crap all the time. Wal-Mart is not stupid, they are not going to lose money on hardware. The only real time they do that is with New Releases although most of that is made up with ad money that stuidos give them. Wal-Marts not stupid....it's a flithy rich company for a reason.

Default Wal*Mart Secret Sale on Friday

How in the heck can Toshiba turn any kind of profit on this item, the Toshiba HD-A2? When you factor in from manufacturing to importer to distributor to retailer, they must be a lost leader! Wal*Mart will be selling this unit for $ 98.87 plus tax. Oh, what the consumer doesn't know !!! Here's Wal*Mart's Secret Sale Link:

http://holiday.ri-walmart.com/?section=secret

NO, I'm NOT a HD-DVD fan, just wanted to alert you to this manuever.
