Stirring the pot. IMO, threads like this should not be allowed in the Blu-ray Technology and Future Technology section.

Yeah I admired your collection pictures.

Wouldn't you just love to put all those blu-rays in a pile on the floor then swim around in them like a blu-ray collecting Scrooge Mcduck?

Indeed. The coins thrown into the mix would be exhilarating as well.

There are a few members that have bought virtually every BD available in the U.S. and then some. That's the frightening part.

What is amusing, is why isn't everyone on this forum like minded? Differences of opinion, of course, but isn't this bluray.com?

Streaming has its advantages to the I don't care about quality and it's all about convenience train of thought. But if you're not into quality of film, what the film was intended to look like when it's transferred over to BD, having what you want to watch at that moment, etc., etc., etc., why even bother with BD ( or even DVD) in the first place? Or even being here? Why not just contribute to streamingiswhatilike.com then?

Yeah, I get the whole instead of blind buying everything (like I pretty much always do) why not watch it via streaming? But that's a different crowd altogether. Ok, cool, but why not read reviews, watch all the trailers that's out there, get opinions on films from people on this board instead of wasting time watching something that sucks and you have no intentions of buying? Don't we have the opportunity to "friend" someone on here to discuss movies where you have similar tastes in movies? How about just discussing what a movies about with people here? How much info does one need to purchase a movie when we have all these vehicles of communication and varying and like opinions right here?

I don't do it a whole lot, but there's been enough times where I've discussed a film I was interested in with a member where they gave me a pretty good synopsis. More times than not (well, most of the time) I agreed with their recommendation. Its a RARE occasion where a recommendation wasn't spot on from what I'm in to.

Well, to make a short story long.......they really can coexist. As long as we can continue to build our own little libraries of films, that's all the matters in the end. My hope is it NEVER gets to the point where physical media becomes obsolete, which I don't believe will ever happen.
I love BD and I'll never, ever stop building my library where I'll know its mine and my families for the rest of all of our lives. How much better is quality REALLY going to get? Unless you're into the I don't care and it's convenient thought process, it's that simple.

No offense, but the name of this site is BLURAY.com That is a PHYSICAL form of media.

Why do we need a single thread devoted to PHYSICAL MEDIA when this whole FORUM is devoted to physical media, with only a thread or two allowed for streaming?

I'm not a hater, but the purpose of this thread escapes me.

Great thread and I agree with all of the other positives/accolades about physical media. I like being able to stream Netflix, Hulu, and all that but if its a movie I really like then I MUST have the physical disc. And, regardless of what some may say, the quality is better with blu-ray than any streaming out there.

I realize that someday everything in our lives will be stored in some cloud somewhere. Whatever. I will always prefer and hunt down physical media for my movie collection.

That being said, blu-ray is the LAST physical media format Ill be buying into. The quality is top notch and just cant get much better for prolly 95% of the users out there. 4K, 3D, bleh. Im good with blu-ray!

You are overlooking the future technology part of the section header. You cannot have a discussion about the future of home media without discussing the inevitable death of physical media.

This thread shouldn't be necessary but I've seen a bunch of people on this site that are far bigger fans of streaming than physical media. I still can't figure out what they are doing on a site called Blu-ray.com.

Therefore this thread was created so we can discuss what we love without having to deal with those people. Unfortunately it means the great arguments in this thread will likely never be read by them either, so it's all just preaching to the choir.

@unsivilaudio ..... The discussion of ripping bluray disc is illegal on this site and still illegal in the US. It is against blu-ray.com policy to discuss this. Please refrain from discussing this topic. Further discussion will result in moderator action.

Thanks in advance

I'm opening the thread back up - and I will watch it to see if civil tongues prevail. If this thread goes south - I will close it.

Not again , you are just like some 33⅓ LPs I once had, that is they repeat the same track over and over. Physical media may at some point disappear, the problem is no one knows when that might be. Same can be said about loudspeakers with voice coils, cones ● surface transportation without reciprocating engines ● aircraft without propellers ● etc. There is long list of physical items that was supposed to be obsolete by now (like 2000) but they are still with us and show no signs of disappearing.

People are complete idiots, The physical media market makes way too much money to do away with. Oh yeah, They are putting out 4k BDs the end of 2014 or early 2015 but physical media is dead... Hahahaha I swear if people had a brain they'd be dangerous!

As I stated in another thread (but not this one since I only just discovered it lol), you'll take my physical media when you pry it from my cold, dead hands. The day they announce they're stopping production of blu-rays and DVDs will be the day I get carried away kicking and screaming.
