Maybe if you read what he was saying before you formulated your retort, you would understand 2 things:
1. In the very first sentence, he states " not sure if this goes here, but..." Obviously it was posted with the best of intentions, and not "a laugh".
2. The The whole point of the post is touting the virtues of physical media vs. streaming/cloud/download, etc...

Let the rest of us know when you get off your high horse, the one that is standing on a soapbox.

Good for you!! I always recommend reading the TOS for ANY non-physical content provider before you fork over any money.

I didn't realize the sentiment of my post was so cryptic.
Ok, please accept my apology?

I've never done that, have you? Stand up and tell the class the last time you did.
Music is portable and movies aren't (unlike audio, you generally have to be sitting down in one place, even a portable place, and not looking at anything else to enjoy them), and that's been the one rather fundamental "Why boys and girls are different" niggling fact about trying to apply one industry sales model to the other: You can argue theory all you like, but when it comes down to real-world scenarios...
You're providing one example, "...walking down the street" and incorrectly applying that universally. In cities that have public transportation systems, people watch movies on portable devices all the time. I take the NYC subway and I would say at least 60% of the people in any given subway car are using a device, probably split fairly evenly between listening to music, playing a game and watching a TV show or movie with a smaller percentage reading an ebook. Kids sitting in the back of car? Using a device to watch shows or movies. People traveling on planes and staying in hotels? Using a device to watch shows or movies. Etc.

People (stupidly) walk down the street with their heads down staring at their device anyway. It doesn't much matter whether it's a movie, Facebook or Twitter. We've gotten used to seeing this, but if someone travelled through time from just ten years ago and saw this, they'd think we've all gone mad.

Furthermore, whether it makes logical sense or not, younger people are moving away from physical media. The fact is that it's cheaper to buy a back catalog CD and transfer the tracks to your player than it is to download the tracks if you do so legally, but it doesn't matter: the trend is towards downloading and streaming services. People don't necessarily behave in logical ways. And once they give up physical media for music, they give it up for video as well. In the office where I consult (a tech company) where most of the people are 25-40, I'm the only one I know of who owns a Blu-ray player, even though it's easy to pop a BD disc in a player. More and more, people (especially younger people) prefer to watch on their tablet. (This doesn't actually make logical sense either because there's no big difference between watching on a computer or on a tablet, except that a tablet is easier to hold in your lap).

So even though I personally still love and prefer physical media and have 300 LPs, 500 CDs and 150 BDs/DVDs in my living room and if I'm going to watch a movie at home, it's going to be on a big screen with the best quality we can get and 5.1 sound, that's not where most people are at. TV sales were down about 18% in 2013 and physical video media sales were down 8.23% in the U.S. (in dollars). So far this year (through 1/18), physical video media sales are down almost 13%. So either people are less interested in physical media even for video, they're watching less media or they're watching media available on regular/cable TV or they're streaming. Take your pick. But in any case, that means a trend away from physical media.

(Although there is one opposite trend: ebook sales were down last year. I think a lot of people bought Kindles or Nooks who weren't necessarily regular book readers, bought their first few books and then never bought another.)

Another reason why there's a trend away from physical media is because physical media makes the most sense when you have strong physical retail. The packaging goes a long way towards selling the product. But as physical retail disappears, this becomes far less of an issue.

It doesn't have to make sense. It doesn't have to be the optimal viewing experience. It doesn't apply to everyone. One media doesn't usually replace another - they usually co-exist for a long time. But the data shows that these are the trends and it can't be ignored just because it's not to our own personal preferences. My bet is that physical media of all types will be a rarity within 20 years. And I have my doubts as to whether 4K will make it onto physical media.

It's great I suppose that people can watch movies on subways and busses.

The movies themselves deserve better presentation.

I for one am glad I can't remember when I was on a bus or subway and it's maybe twice a year that I'm on a plane.

You can't get all that time back.

Whatever this "streaming" thing is that some people talk about here, it sounds like garbage. I like discs, and I have no problem storing them.

I don't want to sound condescending, but I really hope this was meant as a joke.

Zoet does not belong in this thread. he should take a look at facts before spewing his garbage. And give me a break he owns 150 blu rays that is NOTHING. Absolutely NOTHING. And noway is he the only one in an office building owning a device playing physical media i call Bull Sh!t on that

studios earn way to much on physical media its physical media that keeps studios alive. Just look at sales at black friday and christmas shopping in 1 week at black friday blu ray generated and increase from last year and on a wooping 126 million dollars that is US ALONE and in december 256 million dolllars also US ALONE also an increase from last year. Streaming and digital can not even get close to that. Again this is ONLY US ALONE

I recently signed up for the free 2 week Warner Brothers Archive streaming trial offer. There seemed to be quite a few titles that I was interested in viewing (titles which are not available on blu-ray, which I prefer over streaming), so I signed up and got my free trial. Once the trial period ended, I let it rollover into the monthly pay account. Lo and behold, many of the titles I was interested in are now not available. Needless to say, Ive already canceled so that all they get out of me is one months fee.
Just a word of warning to anyone who may be considering, be sure to watch whatever it is you want within the free trial period - chances are, they wont be available once you start paying.
Man that sucks... must be a little like buying into blu-ray and seeing bad boys 2 coming soon in EVERY blue trailer and 6 years later still waiting for it ;p

Yes, the lack of bad boys 2 left shockwaves through the home cinema community and bluray has never recovered. I feel like my collection is incomplete. Now, where is my stop! Or mum will shoot bluray? I must have a sort of my collection tonight.

And yet a title that was claimed to be offered and still is not. In typical blu-ray.com poster mentality its fine for one company not for another. Streaming does it bad... blu-ray does it noproblem. Got it.... cleared that up for me.

Ah, so that's what this is really about IMO. Didn't you read the title of this topic?

Did you read the part of the title where it said "No Haters Allowed"? Please allow someone to offer an opinion or thought that might differ from yours…we might not all be so perfect as you are. Your subtle digs and putdowns are getting quite annoying, IMO.

It wasn't an opinion, in my opinion lol. The title refers to no streaming fanboys, hence optical disc haters. It's pretty straightforward. If you have no love for bluray don't post. For someone who has barely contributed to this discussion (in my opinion) you seem to have a lot to say for yourself (also in my opinion)
