Microsoft Says Sorry (Again) For Unauthorized Installs

For the second time in as many months, Microsoft (NSDQ: MSFT) is apologizing for installing software on customers' desktops through an automated program without their authorization.

Last month, Microsoft conceded that its Windows Update program had been quietly installing software on users' PCs even when the utility had been turned off.

I thought about the A2 for just a second....but who wants a $98 (plus tax) paper weight when they go belly-up?

The only movies I'm interested from the Red side are the Bourne films anyway.

Time for Blu to break out the big sticks and have another sale on players and movies...

Default Blu ray pricing needs to WAKE UP!

Simply put hd a2 is 199, and this week at walmart 98. Blu ray cant even compete with that pricing. Also, the movies need to come down in pricing to 19.99 at least! Oh and where is my dts hd support for the ps3!

You can't really believe that Toshiba is still manufacturing these can you? These have been sitting in a warehouse for months and months. They are taking HUGE loses on these devices now. They are dumping them to avoid additional loses.

I'm pretty sure the A-2 is selling at $198, not $98.

The A2 is a crappy player and is the reason it didnt sell in the first place. Its not even an HD player it only supports 1080i, it will most likely bust and it only supports a dying format. YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR, the A2 is just HD Duds last cry for help and in my oppinion is just sad and PITIFUL.

Well we don't really have any hard evidence either way, just speculation.

Unless a Toshiba insider comes in and says that "Toshiba is currently ceasing production and clearing out stock to minimise losses" then it's all guesswork!

The insiders MIGHT know something.

I can just see the onslaught of other CEs looking to join the HD DVD player profit fest with that pricing now....

$98 is the "secret friday sale", I just feel bad for the average joes that think they are getting a HD player and in actuality there getting a paper weight.

Y'all keep chanting your mantra of "HD-DVD movies cost $30" but if you check out Wal-Mart's web site, you see lots of popular single titles and trilogy's priced for about $20 per disk.

Early adopters may shape the layout of the format war but which format is perceived to win over the masses will decide the format war.

Getting several of the 1.0 BD players down into the $300's before Christmas to entice new purchasers is very important in my opinion. You can't buy a movie, regardless of price, until you buy a player.

Well maybe Sony or one of it's many partners can make a watered-down piece of crap and sell it for the same price. Afterall, that's all the A2 is.

HD Spec starts at 720p. Last time I checked 1080i was HD.

Mods, how many more threads about this do we need. Pay attention, they are always opened by some new forum members, possibly AVS agents
