Ok dumb isn't the right word... It should be whatever word you would use for people who don't think about something and instead just try to go with the flow..

Ha ha flow... Streaming ... Get it?

Sorry...dumb isn't what I meant... More like thoughtless or careless.

Well I think it's dumb. Free speech and all and I am speaking generally. Sheep would be another word. The world is full of sheep.

Don't you see what is happening in front of you? The trend has started. Netflix are offering a cheap SD only option. Disney or Comcast are talking about (or so I read) personal subscriptions which will be streamed directly to portable small screens. Let's face it, that will probably be SD only as well. Watch all the others follow that example.

As got speeds, it is now possible to download HD music but people still use the disgustingly bad quality that is mp3 low bitrate.

"Sony in a bag of hurt because of Blu-ray"
http://www.theverge.com/2014/5/1/567...irment-charges

I find this quote funny:

Quote:
Sony said demand for “physical media” had contracted “faster than anticipated”.
Anticipated by whom? They need to fire their analysts because everyone with a brain has known that the demand for physical media would fall rapidly. The writing has been on the wall for years.

I had dial up till about 5 years ago. Then I got rid of the net til I moved. And there isnt one satellite internet company that offers unlimited download. The most i could find was 10gb a month for stupid prices with gnarly bandwidth caps. Plus weather craps them out. Cell phone cards will take over that but they still have caps. And shotty reception in hilly areas with weather.

I don't take any pleasure in the death of physical media but it doesn't change the fact that it's happening. I look at facts and trends and acknowledge them, it's irrelevant whether I like them or not.

I wouldn't call it the death of physical media, just a retraction. And there are many reasons including the studios pushing digital copies.

Google Music, Spotify and others stream in 320kbps. So even that is getting better in quality.

Ok, where is my choice if optical media disappears? You tell me. Even downloads may be phased out for streaming only. Those who suffer from bad connections or inconsistent wifi won't have the option of grabbing their disc and enjoying a film interruption free. How is that an option for those who have problems? Many millions have issues it's their connection. Should they all give up in near future? I don't know about you but the film is ruined for me if it's interrupted by something out of my control.

Since they still put out vinyl records, I don't see it totally disappearing in your lifetime. Chill out.

You make it sound like these services stream 128k or worse when they have increased in quality as time has gone by. And Spotify premium doesn't stream mp3, they stream the Ogg Vorbis format which is better. You complain about low quality and when its pointed out that its not as bad as you say it is, you still complain. Some day you are going to really have something to complain about but I don't know who is going to be listening by then.

You know there's 2 strange problems with that..

1) Every turntable I see in stores is USB, that is .. it outputs only digital signals...pointless... can't get to the only valuable aspect of the analog recording

2) new Led Zep Lps are made from digital sources... it's like they are cutting the mp3s onto a record hoping that fools somebody ... and it will, big time.

I"m just glad I have a lot of blus ... and lots of CD quality music ... I am chilled out or going to chill out because I already have a lot of what I want.

1) Then shop somewhere else, they still make RCA connector turntables.

http://www.amazon.com/s?url=search-a...Ck%3Aturntable

2) Then buy the old albums that weren't digitally mastered.

You guys are making up problems that are easily circumvented.

Oh, that day will be when this generation grow up and everyone is watching movies on smartphones. That day will come and I will mourn for the loss of the movie night experience.

Eventually smartwatches will be the choice for the sheep. Movies on their wrist. 2 inch max screen. They will need glasses bit hey, it's cool to watch avatar 10 on my wrist. It's like, so last year watching on my smartphone.

You keep saying the word 'choice' as if its a bad thing. Its NEVER bad. Your choice, physical media, will still be around. It may cost more or be harder to find, but will still be there. Stop complaining about things that don't matter. TV watches? Really? You totally overlook the trend to HD and larger TVs over the past 10 years that brought the demand for physical media to hold HD content. You've latched onto a gimmick like its going to be the future.

A trend that will reverse when the young folk reach our age.
