I'd love for Sony or one of it's many partners to offer me a low cost player that I can hook up to the 32" hdtv in my bedroom.

why does everyone get their panties in a bunch whenever HD-DVD players are on sale? Most people getting into high def aren't going to get the bargain basement deal and those that do get this cheap POS aren't going to be huge movie buyers either....

I really think to cut down on all this FUD that posters under 20, or maybe even 100 posts cannot start new threads. That way there isn't a "Walmart is selling $98 pieces o' garbage, Blu-ray is dead" threads every time I refresh the site.

Yeah, looks like we'll get a heavy dose of these threads for the next several days, not to mention, every thread will be steered in that direction. It'll die down eventually though.

A Shame, Toshiba your a disgrace, and just pitiful.
Maybe they are dumping their inventory because they know what lies ahead in Q1 of 2008. Not a bad business move but sucks for consumers

Feel free to search AVS for my posts (same username), I've been beating down HD-DVD fanboys over there for months. That doesn't change the fact that Blu-ray needs a low-cost player that people can pickup for second and third units for rooms that might not have reference level equipment. For instance, I have a cheap 32" hd lcd in my bedroom that I'd love to be able to watch my blu-ray titles on, but for $400 it's not worth it.

So what you're saying is I should buy 2 copies (1 bd and 1 dvd) of every movie if I want to watch something in my bedroom or my den?

LOL, sucks to be the majority of HDTV owners that can't display 1080p anyway.

Sounds like someone needs to wait a few years to invest in NEW, STATE OF THE ART, HIGH DEFINITION, technology. The best of the best shouldn't be cheap. This is like me telling my bmw dealer that kia is having a sale for 99 dollars a month and there is no way they are going to survive unless they match that price. You do get what you pay for.

Just commenting on how this Player cannot reach the Hi Defs industry standard 1080P and that the HD Discs that are being purchased will not be used to their full advantage. Making this and inferior player.

A Pefect Slogan:

HD Dud - "Low Cost, Low Quality"

720 is considered EDTV (Enhanced Def)

HD starts with 1080i

Wait, you mean two different manufacturers can sell cars at drastically different prices and both can survive?

480p is EDTV, 720p/1080i/1080p are HDTV.
