I think we have a clue, and Toshiba's strategy screams of desperation, it's too little to late man, sorry. IF BDA had no strategy, why are they leading 2 to 1 in software sales, how did they win Transformers week (slimly, but still a win)? Why all the gloom and doom? I certainly LOVE HD-DVD's strategy, fudging numbers, trying to confuse people, and giving firesales, but you know what, that has been going on for some time, and the end result, nada.

It's amazing how many people refer to 1080i as junk. I think this player will sell well and I would like to see Blu counter this in some way.

The can dump all the cheap crap on the market that they want. It won't override the pact that more PS3s have sold then all HD stand alone players combined. The studios aren't looking at player sales, they are looking at their own movie sales. If a studio is selling Blu Ray copies of their moves 2X or 3X over their HD DVD copies, what is their incentive to switch?

Watching Paramount has only shown us that studios can be greedy, and the bribe they got only lined their pockets and screwed their talent. Not every studio will be willing to do that.

The BDA better start fighting much harder. There are so many companies in the BDA as opposed to Toshiba.

Why should the BDA respond to desperation? Give them a *real* threat, and maybe they'll bother to respond. (Transformers) Give them a firesale? They will laugh there ass off all the way to the bank as Toshiba loses even more money.

The firesale is a good thing for Blu, it makes Toshiba that much closer to spending all the spare cash they have and thus being forced to give up.
At $199 or $169 the strategy of doing NOTHING, won't work any more. That is the point some of these people are making here. The BDA has to lower prices, not by a lot, but they have to start to be more price competitive or HD-DVD will be around for a long long time and I really don't want to see that eventuality.

Both may be entirely the same or entirely different. Your stance is convenient because you support BD.

Sorry no. The 360 player has been 180$ for months. They haven't made a dent.

Just go ahead and try and tell me that the gamer crowd isn't as likely to buy this type of product as your average person.

My thoughts exactly...

Has he been keeping tracking of all the efforts of Disney/Fox/Sony, the advertising campaigns, anything at all?

Get a grip and stop running around screaming "The Sky is falling."

When WB goes Blu Ray exclusive it will be the nail in HD DVD's coffin.

Who wants to bet the over or under on that?

The only reality that matters is this: People can buy the cheapest POS all the want but then they're going to be looking for movies to feed it.

They'll be looking at Spideys, Pirates, Pixar, Disney, Die Hards...and therein lies the rub.
I think Disney is key especially for the Walmart crowd. Even if the consumer doesn't know that the HD DVD player they're buying can't play blu-ray Disney movies, once they find out they'll be mostly using the player for SD Disney movies. So, while I think the cheaper player will help HD DVD some, I don't think it'll help as much as some think. Basically, I just don't think it'll be used for hi-def all that much especially after a lot of them connect it to their old TV and don't notice a difference between HD and SD (i.e. why pay more for the HD media when SD media is so much cheaper).

read the Insiders Thread. You will learn a lot of good stuff.
I was looking for something official. A press release or something. I don't know wicky other than him being one in charge here so I would put much more weight in something I can read on an official site.

Yes, I'll bet, because Warner already was offered the line and bait, and told Toshiba to go stuff it!

I AM a BD supporter, but at the end of the day I want as MANY movies as possible in HD.

Ive been planning to buy an A3 for awhile, but this is great. That way if HDDVD fails, Im only out $100.

Ill still continue to buy co releases on BD to give as much support to BD as I can.
