The only thing I can see are the Disney BOGO (Temporary response to TF, just lke getting Fox to release titles again after the Paramount/DW debacle) or Sony's new 40GB PS3 (A great move, but is not enough to counteract Toshiba's "cheap" strategy). Where is Panasonic, Pioneer, Fox, et al When will they join the fight? Sorry PhD, the BDA has done NOTHING for months now, face the truth, they have no clue what they are doing and it is killing Blu-ray.
Dude, you need to chill out!

They've done NOTHING?

Where is Panasonic? Did you not see the press release of their new profile 1.1 player?

Where is FOX? Did you not see all of the new releases they are and have come out with?

How in the hell is it killing Blu-ray? Do you have numbers to back that up?
Ummm, probably not.

Seriously, why would wal-mart loss a hundred dollars on each player they sold if they could sell them at 198. They wouldn't. I think its pretty obvious the players werrn't selling well at 198, so corporate said, we gotta move them, mark them down to 98! This is giong to kill HD DVD, because utimitaly the people who pick these things up are simply going to use them as a dvd player, they won't buy any hd dvds, they'll simply watch dvds. after all toshiba has gone out and bragged to consumers numerous times about how "it makes your dvds look better too!" i think most consumers get confused and don't even realize thers hd discs out there.
Easy: Toshiba says "make a deal with us and we'll practically give you free players for your big holiday sales". Wal-Mart is not losing a dime on these, Toshiba is. I've gotta admit, it's insane but brilliant. One has to think though, that if THIS doesn't get them back to sales parity with Blu, nothing will. 99% of the HDTVs Wal-Mart sells are 720p only, so the 1080i limit isn't going to gall their customer base too much. On the flipside, Toshiba better make sure these things have the newest firmware.

It will be interesting to see how the BDA counters. Sony has hedged their future on Blu succeeding, so I have to assume they will do something, albeit grudgingly.

Hell... HD-DUD's can even give the A-2 player for free, but theres no need to worry about nothing, they dont have many good "TITLES", maybe 10 by the most. When people look for their Disney in their 30 day return policy, stores will have a bunch of players shoving down the sewer...

BigB88 is the guy who comes here every monday to post the sky is falling because on DVDEmpire HD-DVD is leading the week...only he's done it on a grand scale.

Microsoft/Toshiba are effectively paying people ~90$ to get an HD-DVD addon for the 360, yet somehow or another a 0$ buy is the end of the world.

Last time I checked all the talent was staying put? What talent are you referring to and where are they going? I don't see any talent aligned with their current studio leaving because of the HD market. I think you are assuming quite a lot here.

No, it'll end up being about digital downloads after consumers give up waiting for one format to emerge.

BigB, I think we are all here for Blu-ray and we all care about the viability of the format. Those who aren't are banned, or on their way out

can we stop with the finger pointing please? Thanks! We all share the same desire and want the same final outcome. lets stay unified and not argue, instead lets hold discussions with a little respect and humility.

Personal attacks, and don't you think this paragraph is laced with sarcasm, and a little condescending/mocking?

I'm sure things will calm down in a day or so.

Answer 1: YES

Answer 2: At $499!!! Come on, who is going to buy this, I'd rather get a $399 PS3

Answer 3: At almost $40 a title!! Who sis going to buy this?

Answer 4: The top 3 answers.

And no, I don't have the numbers yet, let's just wait until Toshiba dumps their 600,000 crappy players on to the market at $170, then we can talk numbers and statistics.

They don't have good titles? I guess blu-ray doesn't either since the majority of releases are on both.

your comparing a drop in price of 20% (PS3) to a drop in price of over 50% (A3) seems like an inventory clearout of the A3 to me....
