I'll just put my 2 cents in here on this part. Broadband internet is meaningless. I live in a TV market that is ranked in the low 40s for the entire US, which means it's a pretty damn big market. I have broadband. I pay $50 a month to Comcast, and I can't have two video streams going at the same time in my house without major dips in quality or straight-up failure to stream. The term "broadband" is meaningless.

There are features with iTunes Extra but those are few and far between and not with many films. Also you don't get everything.

Aside from internet issues, buffering, lack of quality and the fact that you pretty much own zilch I am baffled by how many people fall for it.
That's not accurate. WB consistently matches their Blu releases with their Digital HD releases on iTunes for extras. The exception for WB is commentaries when said commentaries are included on a Blu.

Fox pretty much does all the extras from the Blu on Digital, as does Paramount.

Ever since Apple brought iTunes extras to iOS devices and the Apple TV, extras tend to be identical...just depends on the studio.

I'll add 2 more cents. I streamed my first football game yesterday using the NFL app on my Xbox One. Everything was set up perfectly, I had 4/4 bars of signal strength on TWC broadband, I'm located in the second largest market in the U.S. and it crapped out on me twice in the first quarter. I had severe dropouts in PQ, and pauses for rebuffering. I had to shut down and reset the system twice from being cut off. I missed my teams first touchdown and most of the first quarter of play. It was infuriating. There's no way I'm gonna be reliant on tech like that to watch movies, which I've also had problems with via Netflix in the past.

I use the TWC streaming app on my Roku and it frequently has problems even though the other apps (Netflix, Vudu, etc) don't have issues. It frequently stutters, pixelates, refuses to play certain channels and gives P700 and P707 errors.

Guess I'm just lucky then because with my two Apple TV's cooked up via ethernet with Time Warner Cable (35mbps download), I run two streams constantly on them while possibly downloading something off the computer. I might get a pause every now and again but never a problem.

I get the reluctancy with going this route (hence the reason I most just rent or watch Netflix) but it makes for a nice alternate to buying on disc if you really don't want to do that anymore.

Every digital purchase I make, I download to my hard drive in the event something does truly happen. It's one of the major reasons I have four iOS devices in my house. Just. In. Case.

Personal anecdotes aren't very useful data points. These problems have not been widespread enough (or people don't care enough) to stop streaming from being a big business.

Well P.T. Barnum said it best. To paraphrase. " There's one born every minute...and they 'own' digital."

Was that really necessary? You prefer physical. Many prefer digital. Some prefer a happy medium between the two.

Consider yourself fortunate. I pay extra for their "extreme" internet, and I should be getting 50Mbps but speed tests read closer to 30. Heaven forbid I actually use anything else while I'm streaming video on my tv. That only assures me that I'll have no chance of making through a 20 min show.
That's another thing to note. All other internet devices were shut down when I ran into problems yesterday. I was also only 15 ft. away from my router. There's no excuse for things like that to happen. I don't need that kind of stress when I want to watch a movie, hence the collection.

Streaming and disc each still have their place. For example, my nephew bought the Road Warrior/Beyond Thunderdome combo dvd for $5 this weekend. On Amazon.com, it costs $3 just to rent the SD version of Road Warrior and $10 to buy. Obviously the disc is a far better deal. Price is what is keeping physical media going. You can buy the Blu-ray or download a movie for $20 but get a ton of features on the disc which are not on the download - it is a better value for the money. As well, places still want to charge a premium for older films as I mentioned with Road Warrior but it isn't hard to find cheap discs of those to buy. Depending on what you are looking for, discs might still be your best option. However, things like Netflix are great for most people as well - $8 a month and you can watch a ton of films without having to leave your house to rent/but it. Even though I don't use it nearly enough, I cut back on my cable but added Netflix as it is a better value. In the end, it comes down to what works best for the user. I still buy a ton of movies but I also stream a lot. I think there is a place for physical media still. I mean, mp3 has been around for years now yet records are making a comeback of sorts. Not everyone can do the streaming for whatever reason - internet price, poor speeds, etc - so for them a disc is still the best thing. Eventually I see physical media going away but I don't see that happening for quite a while yet.

That's good for you, not so much for the businesses. All the money you save buying bargain bin discs is money no one makes - and that's actually bad for physical media.

Not disagreeing with you about ISP's lack of upgrading their services to offer better performance. It's 2015. Makes no sense to have these problems.

I'm just fortunate enough to live in a house that that is wired for ethernet extremely close to both of my televisions.
