So what happens after the year is up and the last copies have sold? Then going forward all new fans just discovering the film can't buy a copy.

I consider my Blu-ray collection my movie library same I have with books and video games (PC). Also music too since I prefer having physical releases over digital.

I love seeing my collection of movies on my shelves. It's something to be proud of. I feel the same way for my bookcase. It's unique to me. Nobody else has a bookshelf exactly like mine.

That said, I do understand the space issues some people have. I live in a small apartment and just bought 2 more media storage shelves for my blu-rays. I think I know where they will be going once I put them together, but after that, I'm flat out of room. Like, no more shelves, period. Then I don't know what I'm going to do about new blu-rays. So for those with space problems, I can understand the concern. But I can't understand how some people say they hate to see their movie collection on their shelves - I just don't get it. Do they feel the same way about books?

Do you really care about what people might buy in the future?

Most people don't have shelves and shelves of books in their living rooms though.

I live in an apartment and I have books and movies stacked or shelved or boxed (almost literally) everywhere and I love having bookcases full of movies in my living room.

But I can understand the people who don't.

Diplomatically put. A 1 year-old and a 4 year-old will have you scrambling to put your hard media in a box in the closet and stream in-house right quick.

Thankfully, I can store my movies in a covered bench until I can afford to put them on a media server and store them away like my cds.

I gave up on the books I rotated to kid-reachable shelves because I read somewhere it was important to surround your kids with books if you wanted to engender a love of reading.

Finding something objectionable is just expressing an opinion.

Your child-like justification (ie: everyone does it) for an illegal activity might not be your fault. I hope somebody soon teaches you the rewards of having good character and being honest. (I doubt your eyes would be rolling if a family member or friend's job is eliminated due to piracy).

I'll never understand when people ask this question. Yes. Yes, I do care. How can you be a fan of a film and at the same time not care if anybody else can buy it once you get a copy? Isn't that the very definition of selfishness?

As a fan, I want all fellow fans to be able to enjoy their favorite films/tv shows.

I also would like to know that if I'm broke for several months, I'll still be able to look forward to buying it when I get some money together for such things.

That's barbaric.

You pay for a package of channels and don't watch every one of them? That's foolish.

I just like having options.
That applies to many things in life, other than home video.

Hardly. Live sports, HBO, Showtime, syndicated shows and OnDemand are well worth the price of admission whether I ever watch anything on Lifetime or The Weather Channel or not.

Cable is pretty awesome.

I've gone mostly digital when it comes to video games, the convenience just wins out there.

I challenge anyone to read the recent comments by Jeffrey Katzenberg (google it) about paying for movies by screen size in future and not be extremely worried about where the home entertainment industry could be headed. As soon as people can watch movies cheaper on portable screens we will see a mass exodus towards the smartphone/tablet. Economics of scale could mean the tv screen and higher quality become less and less a thing as we move into this exciting new streaming/downloading era. It is plans like this that will kill off home cinema and physical media.

come on not this again steed it will not happen. No family is EVER gonna watch the freaking supberbowl on a freaking smartphone or if you have family night. Smartphones is for "quick" stuff. You can't even watch a tv episode or movie before your eyes hurt by being concentrated on such a small screen

Didn't we do this a couple months ago? You pointed to these 'recent' comments and people read them and nobody was worried?

Or am I thinking of one of the other times the sky was falling and TVs were about to disappear?

I am merely pointing out that the industry will have took note of this guy's comments. This idea or an idea Like it may come into practice. Would you (honestly) have thought bluray would have such a low percentage of the pot compared to DVD at this stage of its life? I see the same thing happening with cheap smartphone rentals versus 4K rentals.

By the way, I have never said TVs sets are about to disappear. My posts always refer to the future and how current trends/plans could affect things.

Does family night even exist anymore? Even if a family are all together in the to room, my guess is they will be using smartphones, tablets, laptops etc..
