I can't help but think that whoever (probably Toshiba) is making this HD-DVD play must be taking a loss, I don't understand why continue a war where you lose money, or atleast don't make money...

Default Heads up to the mods...

We are going to get flooded with posts/ads like this for the opposing format through the holidays. I'd make it a rule to have all such threads removed. To me it's just artful infiltration and free marketing for the competition.

The A2 only does 1080i right?

Stores are famous for placing black Friday ads with outrageously low priced items that they purposefully only stock a few of. This is done to get people into the store.

What the heck are u talking about? If you're happy with more HD DVD players getting into consumer hands because of a lack of action in BD hardware price drops then I guess that is your problem. I however want to see BD crush the competition. Some people act like god on these forums...

Who needs to make a profit anyway!

Seriously though we need to act sooner than later the more time they have the more life support they buy.

As you can see they have something up their sleeve and they are going to try and make huge inroads this holiday season.

These $200 players only hit stores in the last week, feels like months with this forum!

Just as the BOGO sale to combat Transformers was strategically timed, so will Blu-rays response with player prices.

It also seems like an eternity since we've seen any price drop at all on standalone players. Sure the 399 PS3 is great, and i'll probably get one, but we need standalones to get cheaper by about a hundred bucks. Hopefully it will happen soon...

In that case I guess we can expect high end 1.1 players hitting stores soon, with lower end 1.0 players dropping significantly.

Just don't freak out if it's not in the same week as HD-DVD.

Default they could sell ...

for half that price and still not be worth buying. The fact that HD DVD had to bribe a studio to go exclusive means they dont trust their product, they know its inferior to BR, and at present BR has double the sales of HD DVD, and more important, that us CONSUMERS KNOW THAT. They are grasping at straws, and now there are announcements of HDDVD xbox for next xmas? Throwing everything they can to win this battle - too little too late.

HD-FUDers were saying it'd be cracked within a week of release. Here it is, a month after the first discs with BD+ have come out and still no crack.

BD+ is VERY effective as of now. The initial protection on the first wave of discs has yet to be broken, and if it ever is, the system has an excellent system for dealing with hacks once they exist. The most effective thing about BD+ is that it is a virtual machine-based system that can be changed from one release to the next. I have no idea if Fox is using multiple different protections on different releases, but, even if they aren't, they can quickly start using a new protection scheme if the first one fails to hackers.

It's just a matter of time, but so far... it has managed to remain uncrackable.

it has been cracked, an has been for a while. As far as elaborate no thank you i would rather not say. but it has and is being done it just isnt very cost effective to do right now due to the price of a burner and BD's. and yes it has been done with Zero compression if you were wondering.
I'm not pro piracy, but im not going to tell alot of people on here, or who many stumble on here how to do it. so dont ask!

Forgive me for not believing two people with basically no post history. But it has not been cracked, as far as everyone in the world knows.
