Not really. The things you listed (amps, surround speakers) have always been niche.

Also, up you made it sound like the all in ones and sound bars are all cheap in stores. They ain't.

Well according to your criteria then streaming is a niche product too.

The internet is a busy place these days. The vast majority of people do at least some shopping there.

That said, UHD Blu-ray media WILL be carried in B&M stores like Best Buy, Target and Walmart.

A few points regarding streaming.

1 ) You can't stream the latest releases from subscription sites like Netflix. Those are the very same type of releases that drive disc sales. Probably over 70 percent of all Blu-ray revenue is derived from new and recent releases.

2) Streaming is affecting the cable/sat revenue stream much more than physical media. Physical media has been declining for nearly 10 years, well before streaming became popular.

Disregard Netflix and Amazon Instant and Digital HD/Ultravile would be nowhere near Disc.

I don't have a choice. I am 30 miles from a major city and 10 miles from a smaller city. I can't get enough speed for even HD and that is with recent upgrades to our options.

Exactly. The real threat to disc isn't Netflix or Amazon Instant (etc). It's Digital HD. But although it is growing nicely, it is a still a small percentage of disc sales. And like CD, Blu-ray will be with us for a long time, and there will be a tipping point where physical media regains market share from digital.

Yeah but the growth is slowing. That's bad news for UV so early in its life.

Vinyl has made a come back and modern record players are based on Thomas Alva Edison's Phonograph which was invented in 1877 for crying out loud.

As I posted elsewhere, my formerly UHD capable broadband connection is now not UHD capable anymore. I think a lot of people will find this out the hard way. I've not been able to stream a single thing in UHD to date.

So much for streaming being the future for UHD/4K!!!

So, my only option will be that old fashioned thing called physical media. What a chore, can you believe it, I will still have to get up and physically stuff a disc into a player!

What, you don't have a multi-disc changer? Doesn't everyone? They're only the price of a used car. I thought that was what credit cards were for

What do you do when your house burns down and your blu-rays and DVDs melt and you had that one movie that is out of print?

Anyways, I have become more selective in the movies I purchase. I like streaming and I like blu-ray. I'd be more inclined to purchase more titles streaming if the movie I'm streaming is the same version as the latest blu-ray release and the aspect ratio is correct. VUDU now has Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos movies. All you need is the new Yamaha sound bar that does Dolby Atmos and a HDR 4K TV.

In the unlikely event that this happens, pay the higher OOP price, like I have done a few times before, the only difference is that the insurance would be paying for them.

I was ransacked in my old place and I still managed to replace my collection (bar a handful of titles) via insurance. It's the reason I don't display my collection and rooms in my profile. It has left me paranoid lol. I just have a few screenshots of some of my faves.

I'm okay with streaming. My issue with streaming is a lot of movies on streaming services are the wrong aspect ratio or the version is an old outdated scan/version and is not the latest remastered version found on blu-ray. If they could get this sorted out it would be a lot better service.

I like Hardawar on the /filmcast but I don't quite know how much weight I put on his vision for the future of home video.

It sort of reminds me of this famous scene. Production and sale of (blank) Betamax tapes won't officially end until March of this year. CDs are still kicking, if not selling entirely briskly.

Hard to believe being referred to as "late" on this subject, but I suppose you're right....I did buy Dark Side shortly after Frost...

And that one too!

Okay guys, lemme ask you this: Have to two noticed that you've bought certain CD's, even when the previous was still in working order, numerous times in your lifetime? I mean, I've bought say "Diary Of A Madman" 4 different times on CD! The original, the first remaster, the terrible remixed remaster, and now the 2 CD deluxe edition! And Hell, that's not counting the Vinyl or Cassette versions (wow I think I had it on 8 Track too!).

So here's a short (incomplete) list of albums I've bought, say three times or more on CD (replacing a skipping or lost CD doesn't count nor buying the exact same version/release again):

Ozzy-Blizzard Of Ozz
Ozzy-Diary Of A Madman
Pink Floyd-Dark Side Of The Moon
Pink Floyd The Wall
Black Sabbath's first four albums (the rest only twice each!)
Alice Cooper-Billion Dollar Babies
Slayer-Reign In Blood
SOD-Speak English Or Die
Boston-First two albums

I'll remember more later. I await your responses!

Why would UHD blu rays only be available online? That's kind of an absurd assumption.
Also, only getting something online? That's exactly what streaming is. Therefore, according to you, that's niche. I don't see why they both can't coexist. There are legitimate needs/wants for both formats.
