Yeah, that's what I don't get about a few here that post in just about every thread defending Toshiba, defending HD DVD, etc. This isn't a neutral site. Try that on other fan sites and see how long you last (like going to a Washington Redskins' board and constantly talking about the Dallas Cowboys, or going to a Ford site and constantly talking about Chevy, etc.). I'm not sure what they expect.

Default Why HD-DVD should not be the future of high-def!

Here's a good reason why we don't want to have HD DVD as the future high-def standard, especially since they have such a nice convenient internet access option built right in (besides PiP, this option is the most important part of high-def for the future...NOT! lol ):

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Computer_virus

"...The users of Microsoft software (especially networking software such as Microsoft Outlook and Internet Explorer) are especially vulnerable to the spread of viruses. Microsoft software is targeted by virus writers due to their desktop dominance, and is often criticized for including many errors and holes for virus writers to exploit. Integrated applications (such as Microsoft Office) and applications with scripting languages with access to the file system (for example Visual Basic Script (VBS), and applications with networking features) are also particularly vulnerable.

Although Windows is by far the most popular operating system for virus writers, some viruses also exist on other platforms. Any operating system that allows third-party programs to run can theoretically run viruses.
..."

Let's think about this. Direct internet access to your Microsoft blessed high-def player...? Yeah, I like viruses, worms, being cracked, etc., lets go with HD DVD!!! Go get that $200 player this Friday and plug it into the web... LMAO

well, they need software first...

and they have it...but it's apparently not good enough to buy since HD media is such a small percentage of overall media sales and they have been consistently slammed by BD every week..

Quick, don't release 2.0 players! Quick, remove the ethernet port on the ps3 and xbox360.

Sure I picked out where they won but to say I'm passing lies is just trying to vilify me.
Yeah this is called "statiscal fallacy" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Misuse_of_statistics

I could say something equally as silly by suggesting that because yamaha don't make as good a HDTV as pioneer, Yamaha's motorcycles must be not so good.

Panasonic is known for making good plazzys. Why put statistics about LCD's there?

Likewise pitting Toshiba up against Sony in a field that Sony does not perform well in. The important thing to know is that Sony won the LCD section, Panasonic won the plasma section, Samsung won the DLP section (all BDA companies afaik) and Toshiba won NO SECTION. End Argument.

All I know is this: The $198/$98 HD-DVD player pricing has generated huge interest. There's nothing but talk where I work about pulling the trigger on an A2 for Christmas. Most of the masses out aren't Videophiles such as yourselves and really don't give a hoot about the diff between 1080i and 1080p. They see "HD Player for $198" & think "Wow, good Christmas present". Once bought, disks must also be purchased. Mark my words: A2 Christmas sales will in turn generate massive HD-DVD sales. Ultimately, it is disk sales that will move studios from one format to another. To stop this war for the benefit of all, some BDA manufacturer needs to suck it up and offer similar Christmas season pricing on an older player.

I think you're really reaching here. Just because something has internet access doesn't mean it's susceptible to viruses.

You must think that I am a Pianist! All the planning and forecasting cannot possibly account for your expenses exceeding your revenues. You say that the greed model doesn't work for you. Afterwards, you say that "Net profit increases with better planning and forecasting, not just good quarterly earnings and profit, I know, I've lived it". Which is it? At the end of the day you turn a profit ONLY when revenues exceed expenses.

Feel free to click the report post triangle in thrlride's comments when you find some of his blatant hd dvd promotion posts. You won't have to look very hard.
If you don't know already, the report post button is the triangle in the lower right corner of the name column.
This guy isn't informative or insightful, just plain irritating.

How long should BD players remain at $400 even after HD-DVD dies?

Just as we don't accept Blu-ray FUD, please don't use cheap HD-DVD FUD here.

Jesus H Christ. More new-member consumer electronic geniuses. We should start our own company with the amount of MENSA-quality minds here.

yes very true, just one fire sale that is not permit will not be a deciding factor. The holiday season is coming but not in full force just yet. Will see more sales like this.

I think you need a business 101 class, its pointless trying to explain to you how a business is really run. Try doing it yourself and perhaps you will understand better. Thanks.

Yeah but we're not talking about opinions at all here. We're talking about facts, and you tried to make Toshiba sound like it is doing well in the HDTV market using "factual" statistics that are indeed fudging the reality of the way Toshiba TV's are performing in the HDTV market. If it was your opinion about how good Toshi TV's are that was posted, I wouldn't care less.

You run a thriving business yet you lack the patience to elaborate? Go figure!
