Isnt this crap 1080i?
First of all, when they ask at a store about this, the first question they will ask will probably be "will i be able to watch all the high definition movies on this thing?" or "Can i watch Pirates or spiderman?" to which the store rep will have to explain that this crappy machine does not, and it doesnt even support FULL HD, so either no buy and leave with a confused customer on the best way to upgrade to HD or for a few dollars more get a real HD player (Blu only) |

Average consumers need to see a $99 blu-ray player sitting right next to the A2.
That will make them ask "What the heck is this blu-ray & hd-dvd thing?". It will stop the knee-jerk "HD Christmas present" compulsion buy and promote format research. Blu-ray will win with any consumer who takes time to do the research. My point is this: Many potential buyers don't even know there's two formats. They've ignored HD in general for now b/c the players were priced out of their range & they didn't have cheap HD TVs. Now this has changed just in time for Christmas. HD TV's can be had for <$1000. From a player perspective, at $99 these same consumers can just buy because it says "HD" on it and the in-store displays show wonderful demo material. I think the american public will gladly pay $400 for a BD player that plays disney movies instead of a $100 HD player that will play dreamworks movies. |

I pray to god that Sony, Samsung, Panasonic, Sharp drop their prices on players by Christmas....we really need a major drop in price...believe it or not the $98 HD DUD player will really hurt us....most people besides the really dedicated such as ourselves on this forum really don't care about 1080p...they are pretty happy with 720p/1080i and upconversion of DVD....really guys that is the truth!!!! A $399 PS3 in nice but isn't really gonna get it..now is it?

![]() Seriously though, even the ones who aren't delusional enough to truly believe that that Warner Bros. was hinting at HD DVD exclusivity could believe that good player sales could affect WB's thinking. That being said, $99 is a pretty good deal for a good upconverting player... ~Alan |

A lot of those cheap HD DVD players are just going to end up up-converting DVDs and not leading to a lot of HD DVD sales. Paladin |

I agree with this for sure. I would guess that the majority of the PS3's being sold will not move BD's either though. It'd be interesting to see how that played out.

Well since I started this post I will finish it. To clarify.... I have a ps3 sxrd 60" onkyo 605, xbox360 with hd dvd. Simply put I know alot of people who would buy an hd dvd drive if it were 100/150. To the average joe PRICE is what matters. That is why the 360 sold 11million units and the ps3 cant compete. That said. the hd a2 is a piece of crap and 1080p should be the standard. I for one love the blu ray player over the hd dvd any day of the week. BUT Sony doesnt ever compete on their pricing and that is why they always lose fornat battles...simply put they are arrogant
![]() P.S. If warner goes all in for blu its over anyway. but that also means you better get used to payin 23-29 bucks for a blu ray, which is upsurd! |
