That said. the hd a2 is a piece of crap and 1080p should be the standard. I for one love the blu ray player over the hd dvd any day of the week. BUT Sony doesnt ever compete on their pricing and that is why they always lose fornat battles...simply put they are arrogant So I strongly hope blu wins, but if they dont they can only point the finger at themselves.

P.S. If warner goes all in for blu its over anyway. but that also means you better get used to payin 23-29 bucks for a blu ray, which is upsurd!
Your post is little more than an ill-informed rant.

You say the PS3 can't compete and yet its numbers since inception are quite good actually compared with almost any console in history especially considering the price. The problem is that you and the media insist on comparing it to the 360 as if they were launched at the same time. It's just a bad argument.

You say Sony ALWAYS loses format wars... As a Buckeye fan, this sounds to me just like the people who claim the Buckeyes ALWAYS lose the big games while ignoring that they had never lost a BCS bowl until last year (4-1 is pretty good actually). Sony does just fine... they win some and lose some.

You further assume that BD discs will be $23-30 forever. Why should we even argue this point with you?

I call bull-****. Give us a reliable source and maybe I'll believe you.

Would that not mean they cannot release movies anymore, that'd be interesting seeing as how they have Blu-Rays coming out for a while, not to mention as early as this tuesday.

I'll give you a few minutes before you get reported for trolling.

Why not? BD is a premium over DVD. There are just too many DVD's on the market for to expect a huge exodus anytime soon.

Most of the masses out aren't Videophiles such as yourselves and really don't give a hoot about the diff between 1080i and 1080p. They see "HD Player for $198" & think "Wow, good Christmas present". Once bought, disks must also be purchased. Mark my words: A2 Christmas sales will in turn generate massive HD-DVD sales. Ultimately, it is disk sales that will move studios from one format to another. To stop this war for the benefit of all, some BDA manufacturer needs to suck it up and offer similar Christmas season pricing on an older player.
I agree, but here is the problem: the Blu-ray players are sold out. There probably is not a big stock of crap like the A2. My store cannot keep any players in. They are sold before they can even get there. So what needs to happen is to keep Warner from switching sides. I do also appreciate the poster that quoted the press conference. Hopefully I am just worried over nothing. Going to my local Best Buy, the shelf space is 25% greater for Blu-ray, and they seem to be selling well.

If price is all that matters then the average Joe is going to be buying that cheap HD DVD player to up convert the cheap DvD, so he won't be buying HD DVD movies and won't have an impact on the format war.

The xbox 360 was out a year earlier then the PS3. PS3 will catch up this Xmas.

I went to Best Buy this morning after seeing the $99 price on their website. I told the girl working in the electronics section that I was looking for an HD-A2. She responds: "Do you know that the A2 is last year's model, and that it doesn't do 1080p?". I still asked if they have any, and she checked inventory on their computer system. Zero in the Mission Valley store, 1 in Mira Mesa, and 1 in Chula Vista. That's it for all of San Diego. The $99 may look exciting, but I really doubt it will drive huge player sales, or software sales, for HD DVD. At this Best Buy, I bet someone would leave with a PS3 or Samsung BD player.

like those people who believed warner will go BD exclusive on sept. 31

Man, sometime i think some people need to take off the blu-glases!
I guess you have a crystal ball that no one else has to be so certain of yourself.

I believe that they will sell a lot of them at that price, but does that alone mean it had a "strong impact"? If you are selling to cheap consumers it may have little impact. Cheap consumers at WM are often also poorly informed consumers. How many WM shoppers understand the format war at all? Much like the early Planet Earth sales on Amazon, how many of those WM shoppers will buy the HD-DVD player thinking it makes their normal DVDs hi-def? Lots of them, and the good news is that they'll be correct and they'll buy lots of DVDs that get upscaled... they may not end up buying many HD-DVDs, which WM has a poor selection of anyway.

How many PS3s you think will end up selling this holiday season? More than the A2 I'd bet. Does that offset it?

Let me ask you this. If you were Toshiba and you knew that WB might turn blu and had a hunch Universal might not stay exclusive to your camp, what would you do? Dump your soon-to-be-obsolete player at bargain prices? You betcha.

Point is, we don't know what Toshiba or other insiders know or what they might be thinking. We don't know what the future holds, but I'm guessing BD increases its share of HD-DVD in software sales in 4Q and that will influence many studios and manufacturers.

And 1 Wal-mart employee out of a 1000 is going to have any real knowledge of the advantages of Blu. I scouted my local WM today and they had 24 of them.

This is Toshiba's last grasp. Here is the kicker, they can move a ton of these units, but if the buyers don't start buying HD DVD disks (or more importantly WB HD DVD disks) they will loose anyway.

Paladin
In addition, even if sales do start to catch up, WB knows that to jump to HD-DVD is to stalemate things and screw themselves and all the other studios out of HD Media. I think this is a moot point now.
