I've been reading all these posts on the price of Blu-ray and many of you have valid points.
Unfortunately, there is no one clear answer... Yes, having a $100 player is great for selling more hardware, but at the cost of losing $$$ per unit. Having sold more hardware will translate into more sales of the media (that is a long term view). I believe that Blu-ray needs to have low prices to compete, but I also believe that there should be a range of players, from high-end (Denon, Sony, etc.) to low-end (some Chinese no-name player) and anywhere in between. The gradual drop in hardware prices will take place, given enough time for the format to survive. This is where the balancing act comes in. The advantage that the BDA has is the multitude of CE vendors, which offers them some flexibility and better strategy. This must be exploited at all times. As far as pricing is concerned... look at the prices for SD-DVD movies... they came down in time. You don't need the format wars for that to happen. Look at the history of personal computers for some hindsight... Do not let egos come in the way of decision making.... we need a balance in our strategy. Bogdan PS. As long as Microsoft is involved... I would take nothing for granted! Last edited by MacHaggis; 11-01-2007 at 07:07 PM. |

DVDs were up in this price range when they first came out, and VHS, I won't even go there. How is this different? Prices will come down on media.

Many have said they can't lower prices on movies otherwise why would studios even release a premium product for the same price as dvd. You're assuming HD will replace DVD. I'm assuming they won't.

Playstation? Never heard of it, it was drowned under by the Nintendo 64. Playstation 2? Dominated by the Gamecube and Xbox. CDs? Who'd ever want these? Cassettes FTW! My god if one more person posts that Sony always loses format battles I'm going to go postal. |

Edit: What I do see is that once the hardware prices come down low enough, very few people will buy an SD DVD player. I just hope that this battle will be over, with Blu-ray as victor. Bogdan Last edited by MacHaggis; 11-01-2007 at 07:22 PM. |

It is obviously FUD. Who would look at one site like that and stop anyways? They would keep looking if they are doing research.
Also the "comments" are probably all from the same guy making up names and outright lying. "Look at the sales numbers..." is a load of crap. If anyone DID look at the sales numbers, they'd see the market is TOTALLY Blu-ray! |
