Let me tell you I am a big bluray supporter and think hd-dvd is dying and the lesser technology, but how could I resist???? At worst, when hd-dvd dies, it can replace my old dvd player upstairs. I paid more for my sony sd-dvd player last year. I got Transformers and Batman Begins for free and I am sending out for 5 more free movies. I mean wtf, the movies alone would have cost me more then the player did.

I state again that I think hd-dvd is on its way out and bluray is the technology I want to win, but this is almost a freebie. I was gonna buy a dvd player anyways, so I got and hd player and 7 movies for under $100.

Am I dirty for fooling around with the other side ?? I haven't seen Transformers or King Kong yet, so I will be happy to see them in hd at least for free. I will buy any movies that come on both formats on blu of course. I will also be able to check out hd-dvd and see whats up with it.
Sounds to me like you chose to not buy 4-5 Bluray movies...and bought....other stuff. Hmm...I'm not one to pass judgment on what other people do, but yeah....sounds too "neutral" to me.

I'm not going to bash you, as it is a great deal and I can understand your decision but I will never buy an HD-DVD player and if someone offered it to me for free I would take it and throw it away. As soon as I bought my 1st blu-ray disc I knew I would not buy anything else but blu-ray. There are enough movies available that I can wait or if I really want to watch them I can rent them on regular DVD until they come out on blu-ray.

I want this format war over as soon as possible and contributing to HD-DVD in anyway will not help. With that said I just hope that all Warner movies you purchase are ONLY on Blu-ray and do not do any blind HD-DVD buys.

waste of money, you shoulda just bought the 7 dvds and upscaled em.

It'd look the same, plus you wouldn't be supporting an ass format.

I am sick and tired of people posting 'going red', id rather give my $100 to a homeless person on the streets of Toronto then by a HD DVD player.

I have a lot of friends who love watching BLU RAY movies at my house, but they still aren't going to get a BD player because they are waiting for the format war to end first. IT IS because of you 'going red' people that this format war will continue and it angers the hell out of me.

It seems people love cheap ass stuff, as long as the $$ is low they ll buy it, you should check out the dollar stores, I think they might have a deal on HDDVD players this weekend.

The fact that you dont support HDDVD and yet you are buying their products is pure stupidity. You aren't buying their software because you want to see the movie, you are just buying it because it is cheap, and or free. AND that is what baffles me, why spend that money on that cheap HD player when you can just go rent or purchase the standard DVD movie and upconvert it, because then you can still see all your favorite movies from the red side like Fast and the Furious, Van Helsing, Break Up, and the Scorpion King in HD.

Do you guys think wal-mart is just unloading all their HD-DVD stuff? They have an add about both movies and the A2 player. Hopefully it is just an unloading sale before they go exclusive to Blu.

oh my f***ing god. wtf is wrong with you people? are you seriously getting angry about him buying an HD-DVD player for 100 dollars? even if it comes with about 7 free movies or whatever? let me go ahead and clear the air here with 3 valid statements:

1) You people are insane.
2) Toshiba is taking a huge loss on whatever 98 dollar players are sold, let alone the free movies being given out. Thats a huge loss as well. Just because the guys here are buying the players with free movies doesnt mean they are going to buy HD-DVDs from now on, im positive they will continue buying blu rays when they are offered on both formats even. So you should be happy anytime one of those cheaper models are sold. Toshiba loses money on them, guaranteed.
3) you talk of "winning" the war, but we dont win no matter what. all we do is spend the money, they make it, period THE END. you will see no "rewards" or "spoils" from this mess. the best thing that could happen is you say, a year from now or more, "hey! i dont have to buy a 2nd player for HD movies!" and by that point, they will be cheap as DVD players, or as expensive as 3 blu rays at the most. so go ahead and buy Blu Rays you dont even like just to avoid having to buy an HD-DVD player in the future. you are only ripping yourself off. good logic.

i dont care who wins, as long as i get HD movie content on the cheap. i have a ps3, and love blu ray. but if i could get my hands on a 100 dollar HD DVD player i would, too bad im stuck here in Japan for 3 years. but you better believe i would have bought one. why? because im in it for the HD content, not the HD format. wtf is wrong with you. you all refused a great deal because you think you signed up for Sony's army somewhere? is that it? i love blu ray and i buy only blu ray. but thats because i hate the fact that buying 2 formats would have been very expensive. but if toshiba is looking to drive down the prices that badly, i hope it forces BluRay to do the same. that way i can get HD content much cheaper. you guys are insane. Go "whatever your name is" for buying a HD player. you are one intelligent mofo. wish i could have bought one too. i guess that means i dont have the "resolve" to spend more money than i should be spending on HD content because it doesnt have a specific label on it. whatever, i used to think this forum was awesome and full of intelligent shoppers, but its full of fanboys who abandon intelligence in pursuit of insanity. good going.

and yes, as soon as i CAN get an HDDVD player cheaper, 1080i or 1080p, i will. why?
http://blog.hometheatermag.com/geoff...061080iv1080p/
here is why. so all you "1080i is crap" fanboys can get a dose of truth.

if you dont want to read that, just know that the I or P dont matter unless you are a gamer, movies dont get affected.

maybe ill just buy Transformers on HD-DVD out of spite for the ludicrous bashing that you undeservingly put on the original person who posted this. i think i will. and also, go ahead and delete this or edit it, i know the truth is too hard to see on here.

Interestingly, I followed the BB link posted earlier in this thread and put a $99 A2 in my basket about 2 hours ago. Damn near made me go purple since I've got a spare HDMI port......

Do you think the average american drives a $45k BMW? Nope, they drive Fords and Toyota's. You might want to stop being arrogant and encourage the BDA to appeal to the masses because your analogy isn't good for mass adoption buy-in. LMAO.

Thats quite the....wait lemme check.....13th post for you. I am going to say that I own 2 1080i tvs....and 1 1080p. I notice a difference. Mind you....they are all Samsung. One is a 32" LCD(1080i)....51"DLP(1080i)...and 50"DLP(1080p). There is a difference between the two. Deal with it. Look at that...I didn't even have to get paid to write that. Its an opinion that I have, and on a site filled with videophiles.....I highly doubt that I am alone.

Now...on to the actual topic...if you buy an HD-DVD player....and HD-DVD has a BOGO sale....how tempted will you be to buy them? Quite. And then you get sucked in. And then hey, this movie on HD-DVD is cheaper than that Bluray....I'll buy this. Really, the fact that they see the hardware being sold, only makes companies believe that HD-DVD still has a chance. And what if some customer sees you walking through the store with it? Could that have an affect on their purchasing? Sure. Are these people(myself included) insane for coming down on someone? Nah, they are passionate about Bluray....thats probably why they are on Blu-ray.com.

As long as these people are only going to enjoy their FREE titles with their crap HD DVD player, it's fine by me. In fact, it could be a good thing if people who understand the inferiority of the technology have it. So...

FOR ALL BLU-RAY OWNERS ADOPTING THE BASTARD HD DVD CHILDREN... please use this philosophy when shopping for HDM: For every 1 HD DVD disc you buy, make sure to also purchase 2 Blu-ray at the same time. That way you can still maintain the sales ration that will win us the war in the New Year.

Thinking about it logically, this could HELP OUR CAUSE!!!

You are saying that an average american cant afford a $45 k car and yet they can be an early adopter in blu ray? Hmmm doesn't sound right to me.

ohnoes! only 13 posts? whoah! that means this is 14! yaaaay! i have a bigger e-p*nis now! hurrraaaaaay for meeee! awww but your e-p*nis is biggger!!! waaaaaah! (if you start your reply with something asinine and stupid, so will i. quality, not quantity. id say if all of your start something like this, then none of them matter anyway, but thats redundant. they still dont matter)

wait, you also have better tvs than me? and more? daaaamn, im impressed again. you soooo sooo big. me soooo sooo small. (sorry couldnt help myself again)

now, i also have multiple tvs, one for gaming one for movies. the 1080i is for movies, the p is for gaming. why? because like i said, you only notice in gaming. and they are both Bravias, so if anyone optimizes tvs for their own HD format, Sony should. so once again, there is no difference, i made sure before i dedicated a tv to gaming. (also have all 3 next gens...my e-p*nis just got bigger) so there is no difference for movies, YOU deal with it. i swear, are you that much of a fanboy that you force yourself to notice a difference that doesnt exist?

and just because this is Bluray.com doesnt mean only people who support only bd should be here does it? or are you a "format-ist" (like a racist but against people who like other formats... get it?)
