C'mon, we just got used to the fact, and eventually rationalized acceptance based on how much we like each actor's depiction of the bat. While the movies stood out, where is the love for that familiar face? Michael Keating was a great batman, but still not sure that "Mr. Mom" should have been cast.

Toby IS Spiderman - period. Kirsten IS MaryJane - period. You could get away with not having Kirsten because Spidey has had several loves, just move on to the next.

Would Spiderman 4 go over big with the right script? Sure it would, because it is Spiderman and they all look the same in costume. But the nuance is lost. No more movie magic.

Some Quick questions:

Who here believes/doesn't believe that having a sub $200 blu-ray player at K-Mart/WalMart/BB will help blu-ray's chances of winning the format war?

ok...

Now who here thinks/doesn't think that having a sub $200 blu-ray player at K-Mart/WalMart/BB will help blu win sooner?

For myself, I "believe" in question 1 and "think" in question 2. Am I wrong to have this opinion? If so, why?

Default Just got back from Wal-Mart

I will start with that I didn't buy an A2 but was thinking about it. I needed to get some shopping done anyway and if there was no line, then maybe I'll get my feet wet with a $99 player until I upgrade my TV to 1080p.

I am format neutral leaning BD due to the companies that back blu just so you know.

I should have taken a picture with my camera phone. At 8am there were 150 people at the electronics checkout waiting on 20ish players. I continued over to the software aisle to get what I needed for my kid when I bumped into two friends. They said that yes, they were there for the HD-DVD and I asked how long they had been there? 6 am! and they were about 20 back in line! After talking with them they seemed to know about the war and all the details of the player. To them it didn't matter since they had smaller 1080i TVs like me.

So, I go over and get the software and about 10 after they announce that all the players are gone. The line dissapeared except for a dozen or so waiting on laptops and TV's.

I am not trying to spread fear or panic guys, but Blu-Ray really needs to have an answer for this. I am not a console gamer and would rather have a nicely appointed stand alone that would at least have a semblance of price comparison ($250-$300 for 1080p). Toshiba might not have a sound buisness model...but it is moving units and there is a large demand for them.

Just so we are clear, I don't have an agenda other than having the war end one way or another. At less than $100 that player would have been the start I wanted with little price risk after all the free titles. If Sony then put out a $200 player I would buy that one. If there was only one format I would pay $300 knowing I had full studio support.

Now it's time to install Lego Star Wars.

There really is no demand for HD A2s. There is only demand when the price is SO low that it is illegal to sell them in some states. Nobody wanted these things before.

I remember that Wal-Mart got sued a while back for selling their products below variable cost. The lawsuit did not stick, but the point is Wal-Mart does this stuff all the time. I guess Best Buy is doing the same thing too. I do not know how they get away with it. Then again, it is their competitors that have to sue them, so if everyone is doing it, I guess no one will make a stink out of it.

Its only the price that is driving this, and yet Toshiba isn't making a dime off these.
BDA better come out with an answer soon, or we will be in a longer war than we hoped for.

About 30 titles, most had been placed that day there. Last week they had only Transformers and maybe 2 others. Blu-Ray had about the same at this Supercenter. The prices ranged from $18-35 depending on title. Planet Earth I think was the one on the high side. I didn't stick around to see if people were grabbing those. Doubtful with all the free stuff that they would get more right then.

Default $98 HD-A2 format war implications ?

I'm format neutral, owning an HD-D1 and a PS3.

Today, i went to Wal-Mart and bought one of those $99 A2s.

Which got me to thinking ... I bought this as a second player for my den, so it won't result in me buying any more HD-DVD discs than i already do.

If most folks buying these A2s are like me, then HD-DVD won't benefit much where it really counts - disc sales.

Another day, more low post count people chiming in about the "urge" to buy the cheap HD-DVD players at Wal-Mart. Anyone see a trend?

very good point. movie sales will drive this.

Honestly, i wonder if wal-mart focuses on blu after this push... seems like many stores are going to more blu space anyways... maybe this is their last ditch effort.

Totally agree on the second player scenario as well.

I just found something amusing...most of these 98$ firesale purchases are being done at Walmart, which means that any HD-DVDs purchased with them won't count towards the official numbers everyone uses.

This amuses me greatly.
