I actually went and got a A3 at Best Buy today. I got 2 movies in the box (300 and Bourne Identity), 2 free from Best Buy (Transformers and Hot Fuzz) and will get 5 from the mail in. Gotta love free movies.

I will still buy all the neutral movies on BR and get a few HD-DVD exclusives. I pretty much just got it as an upconverting player anyway and just so I won't be bummed when I find out stuff is HD-DVD exclusive.

I went with 2 guys from work, who were buying them as their second players. I would assume that is the majority of buyers of the A2 and A3. He just wanted 9 free movies.

How many duds could they dump in the market with the $200M that WB turned down? 1,000,000?

Is this troll still here? His posting history reveals him for what he is. A FUD spreader with no subtlety.

I find this hard to believe. At $98 you'd at least have the eBay resellers out in force. Maybe you don't have any in your neighborhood. They're everywhere else.

well! at this point we don't know exactly what will Paramount do down the road and also there's always the Warner factor to consider, besides $98 is chump change even if it all fails at the end. Anyway after receiving the 5 free movies makes the player pretty much free so I asked myself........WHY THE HELL NOT!!!!

This may be true, my area of michigan is out in the boonies. But as of seven tonight, there were still about 19 left. My walmart is a supercenter, and always full of people, but noone appears to be buying the cheap players.
Maybe tomorrow it'll pick up a bit

None in Oklahoma , which is good. I knew several people that tried to go pick one up.

Alas, we're a "no-dumping" state where it's illegal for this to be sold at that price.

Two of the three have now ordered a 40gb PS3.

Default Should we be worried about the HD-DVD promo's for this week?

I know Spiderman will sell HUGE, but with all the promos for the CHEAP A2 and some specials on some movies. Do you guys think we might have a competion for the sales week?, Kinda with transformers, the red group put their own little sale.
What i am optimistic is even though we had a bogo, they dont, its just a promo for acouple movies. I think and hope we dont loose this week. I probably will making another purshase just to be on safe side.

No, the HD DVD business model is NOT sustainable. Nothing to worry about. As I've posted, this is it. HD DVD has obviously been put on notice. Whether it's from WB or from the Toshiba head office (there was a rumor/post on this about 4 weeks ago), we don't know. All we know is that they are desperately trying to hold on and make a dent into BDs lead so as not to lose what little industry support HD DVD has left.

I suspect that by this time next year, this thing could very well all be over...

i love how everyone thinks they shouldn't be worried. 250k of those players available. even if half of those players sold, sold 1 hd dvd thats 125k...on top of the thousands they're already going to sell without the sale.

sorry blu fans..this may be a temporary spike here, but if warner sees this and goes hd exclusive, game over.

Aint skeerd.

I wouldn't be surprised if the majority of the $98 a2s sold this weekend are 2nd & 3rd players.

The Q4 Blu onslaught began Tuesday.
