(Shaking head in hands)

The new Panasonic meets the 1.1 specs. Sony may lose format wars, but blu-ray is not Sony. It is more Disney's baby than anything. Sony was just vocal in the initial phases of the technology.

The Panasonic that comes out next week will be 1.1 so quit talking about this moving to the center non-sense. While I realize you have the right to choose, think about all the money you will waste by buying now on HD-DVD and then buying again when Blu-ray wins this war.

Edit: Looks like someone beat me to it with the Panny comment!

Booya.

I would also like to mention that the new Panasonic will be Profile 1.1.

(Maybe if we keep repeating it the point will get across.)

I'm not sure about your logic. Why would I buy anything twice? If the HD-DVD format fails, everything I already have will still work fine.

I resent having to buy a new player in order to have a compliant one. I had thought by choosing a PS3 I was more-or-less future-proofing myself against that problem. While that's still not out of the question, it's looking much less likely.

That's weird... I could've sworn the new Panasonic that's gonna be out in a week or 2 here will be profile 1.1... Just had to repeat that as well.

I was in the center once, and let me tell you, I completely quit buying HD-DVD's now. The only one I've bought within the past like 6-8 months was Transformers and let me tell you, I have no plans to purchase anymore. I prefer Blu-Ray all the way and with good reason too. But I wont even go into that.

How so? I believe that Sony even said the player will be upgraded to profile 1.1 status. And we wont even have 1.1 movies until early next year. I think that gives them time to give us an update.

As for the buying everything twice comment. The reason you'd purchase it twice (Even though it works just fine, which it probably wont) is because Blu-Rays tend to have Uncompressed audio where your HD-DVD's wont. That's reason enough right there. Plus there's the chance they'll fill the 50gb disc which will compress the video less. That's another reason. Then you can have all your discs on the same format instead of having to use 2 different kinds of discs.

The PS3 will be upgraded to profile 1.1 via an update for the system. Since it is internet capable it will be most likely be possible to upgrade to the next profile as well.

I understand your concerns that this is about entertainment, not about a war and picking sides. I find myself tempted often to buy HD-DVD...simply for a lot of Universal movies, but I've decided to wait it out and continue to buy blu.

Waste O' Money!!! There will be one victor! Two formats never survive side-by-side, and history proves this.

Going neutral just prolongs the inevitable. Stay true, stay blu, and this thing will be over before you know it.

I keep saying, the next two months are everything for HD-DVD. If they do not gain a large share with the crazed holiday shoppers, they're done by Q1:2008.

At least hold out till 2008. Warner, and many other retailers and corporations, have a spotlight on HD-DVD. DON'T MAKE THEM SHINE!!!

Do you have a link to support this? Most of the information I've tracked down has Sony being noncommittal about actually supporting 1.1 on the PS3. The best confirmation I could find was that there would be "interactivity enhancements", but they have no targeted date for it. The wikipedia summary page has a section on that.

I would never buy a movie again just to move from a DTS or Dolby Digital soundtrack to uncompressed audio.

As for the compression on video, well, if I have a choice I'll buy the better one. But the video compression point isn't much of an issue. Unless you're talking a 3-hour-plus movie, I'd be hardpressed to actually spot the difference without A/B-ing still shots.

I'm certainly not going to look at a typical HD-DVD and think, "Wow, that looks crappy." Slight differences don't concern me. I'll watch a typical movie three times, ever, and I'd enjoy it fine on either platform.

this is true, but how long will you hold onto 2 separate players to watch a handful of titles? It like having a Laser Disc player and a DVD player (with the differences being more subtle than DVD to BD). Most who had both repurchased their LD when DVD became the new standard.

So you can't hear the difference between uncompressed and Dolby/DTS audio tracks? It's not just the uncompressed audio, it's also the video. As I'm sure you've read around the forum, the peak bitrate for HD-DVD is around 35mbps. Now that's the peak, you'll be lucky if you make it past the mid-20's. And a lot of people think that bitrate doesn't matter. Well do a quick little search about WB titles here and the site and you'll see about that one. But judging from your last posts, no offense, but you have kind of a "it's good enough" attitude. Which isn't a bad thing, it's just now you're settling for something that's just a step above DVD and a few steps below Blu-Ray.

Default Is HD-DVD Trying To Counter Attack Us For This Hot Week Of Pixars Delight?!

I think I'm scared guys for this weeks pixar week, I just saw that HD-DVD is having a sale going on for six titles at amazon, up to 45% off. It was on the front page in the movie section so I tried going back after looking at our pixar moives being on the best selling list so I can copy the link and it wasn't there, so I went to the HD-DVD section to copy the link for ya'll, the things I do for my homies, here it is http://www.amazon.com/b/ref=amb_link...01&pf_rd_i=130. You think this is a counter attack for the pixar movies, I wonder if they are trying to have any other sales going on this week besides amazon, I guess they are trying to pull one on us like we did on Transformers week, lol exept theres sucks. Oh and for those who don't know I was being sarcastic when I said I was scared for this week.

Yeah the blu-ray BOGO was a stronger response to Transformers than these titles are to the new Pixar titles.

those are some crappy titles.
that's the problem, even if they tried a BOGO type offer like Disney/Sony did, then what titles would they use?

Not many of their titles imo have the power that POTC and such do.
