Fun. Frankly, the only way I think I'd ever be going 3D would be with a projector setup (not happening any time soon, alas, not that I'm displeased with the Kuro by any means)

Heads-up Hokie fans (I admit it, I’m biased, as my nephew attends Virginia Tech) for this upcoming Labor Day……….

Honestly, I would simply use that 80,000 number as guide in comparison to other model projector specs offered by the same manufacturer (in this case Sony).
Well, I will know more soon enough - IFA will have at least 3D projection setups by major consumer electronics manufactureres and I intend to see all of them

Thanks, saw it. Cedia is, personally, a bit more interesting because we get NA prices and a few people that I know that will be there. on the other hand I am a bit disappointed that it is active shutter instead of Passive.

Oliver, if you do go to IFA, can you start a thread in the projector or 3D projection forums and share what you find on them?

I received a couple of PMs asking who I was referring to as “Omar” in yesterday’s postings. See the presenter at the 15 sec. mark here -

Not to worry though, as these exclusivity deals will fade over time.

If your sole incentive in purchasing a 3D display right now is to watch motion pictures in 3D and you have 0 interest in broadcast programming like sporting events, science, natural history, etc. and gaming.…well yeah, it might be very difficult for some folks to rationalize spending their discretionary income in this fashion at this time.

People make their decisions based upon their own personal criteria. What if, for instance, you’re in the market for a new TV this upcoming Holiday season because you desire to add one to another room in the house or you’re unhappy with one of your current displays? I think it’s good that consumers at least now have 3D display choices among several different manufacturers if they are willing to pay the premium for 3D capability.

One thing is undeniable; there is certainly more public awareness of 3D than there was with Blu-ray during the embryonic stage of both techs….and in that, 3D already has one feather in its cap.

An uploaded YouTube video clip like for the prototype VAIO would be a nice illustrative aid to add to the ambience of being there…

Oliver, just make sure you include a bottle of Beck’s in the foreground!

That makes all the hard work totally fulfilling.
You got some guts, <insert real name here>

I have gotten throughly disgusted with parent behavior in regards to little leagues. Too many parents are living their dream through their children.

I hear stories all the time about parents who threaten coaches (and referees) for not playing their kids.

I've heard that many communities are now requiring parents to sign a parent pledge against bad behavior.

Are you basing your opinion on what you've read or what you've actually experienced with Little League? In my experience coaching baseball and soccer the last 7(?) years, the people in our community are very supportive of their kids and behavior that is out of line is the exception rather than the rule. I've only seen a couple of instances in all those years that really were bad, but that's out of the all the parents of the 12+ kids on all those teams over the years. A bigger issue to me is not the parents who are too involved, it's the ones who don't show up to watch their kid's games - fortunately on our teams that hasn't been much of a problem.

As an aside, Sony is putting together a small team this year. I won’t be riding in the event as I have a conflict on those dates.

I forgot to mention yet another application for the 3D displays. That being, if you would like to capture your home/family videos in 3D for more life-like documentation of personally significant events in your life….. like for instance, your baby taking its first steps, etc., or even sharing more frivolous 3D moments with family and friends like hobbies and such, then come October, Panasonic is due to release the first consumer 3D camcorder (with conversion lens) in the U.S. which is supposed to be very user-friendly (for the 2D internet snob/whiners out there, yeah, it shoots in full HD (1920x1080)2D with the 3D conversion lens off). Additionally, I think the package apparently also includes some editing software, which allows you to edit the recorded 3D images, and save them onto Blu-ray or your PCs and even upload them on the web.

Sony also has a consumer 3D camcorder in development at this time. Meanwhile, if some manufacturer quickly builds an underwater housing for Panny’s new 3D camcorder, I might just be tempted to purchase one myself as an interim solution as I find the MSRP of the camera to be reasonable.

hrm. 3D video of underwater... That sounds pretty wicked.

Saw ARMADILLO in a pre-screening, with a review up for those that care. Weirdly, I think I'm the first at RT to have done a review, even though it played Cannes (doesn't make sense, but what are you gonna do).

Anyhoo, it's a spectacular doc, just gorgeous.

You do love dem motion pictures about war. In that vein, is it as spectacular as seeing something in color for the very first time, unless like this gentleman you witnessed it as such in person, back in the day?…
