If the number was even around 50k, there were probably enough people that bought them as second players, and some who bought them as plain ole DVD players.

Default strike when the iron is hot

We need to act now. When i decided to get into the high def game almost every retailer was promoting blu ray as the winner. Now with the paramount decision and the cheap hd player I fear this war will go on and standard def will continue on as the winner. I know hd will never win but blu ray has got to sway either warner or universal. The time is now with so many high end blu ray only releases. Bd must do something to win this and we must show the other studios that their best bet is to support blu ray.

And a lot of people think that bitrate doesn't matter. Well do a quick little search about WB titles here and the site and you'll see about that one. But judging from your last posts, no offense, but you have kind of a "it's good enough" attitude. Which isn't a bad thing, it's just now you're settling for something that's just a step above DVD and a few steps below Blu-Ray.
I'm curious, what Warner movies do you think look better on Blu-ray than on HD DVD?

Well, the thing is, I won't. The BD-UP5000 plays both formats.

If I have a choice, I'll pick up the Blu-Ray. But HD-DVD is good enough that I won't be disappointed if I buy the occasional movie in that format.

Agreed the BDA needs to do some heavy promoting. By concentrating on the strong studio support that BD has. The masses of people must be educated on Disney, Fox, Sony and others.

He's not saying that, he's saying look at the Warner releases and how they don't match up to the very best that Blu-ray exclusive studios are producing with 'superbit' level encodes.

The lossless soundtracks Warner have produced for the Blu-ray versions of some movies is appreciated however.

Right, that's what I thought. Of course BR can provide higher bit rates than HD DVD. The question is, when they are both maxed out, can anyone tell the difference?

Nature's Journey is one such disc, wherein both formats are pushed pretty hard bit rate wise. From what I've read, few people can tell the difference.

And yet, no lossless on Terminator 3! Ridiculous if you ask me.

I was never a big movie collector. My DVD collection is probably 50 titles. But just because I have a passion to see the best format succeed and to see all my favorite movies on our format, I have now begun to avidly collect movies on blu-ray. Granted, some here have WAY more than I do, but my collection of BDs is now up to 38. What with all the BOGOs and I've bought just about every Warner title that interested me to help WB decide to go blu exclusively. I hope to help end this war as soon as possible.

The only way for 1 person to have any real affect on its outcome? Buy as many BDs as you can! And enjoy them and spread the word!

I think that the BDA is now awake. Let's not forget the Disney Blu Ray tour that was a big success and that studio has been very vocal on their support of Blu Ray. How about the flood of Fox titles that are finally coming out, after that long silence from them. Sony also has hit with advertising in magazines, price drop of the PS3 and how about those great tv ads that are running all over the place. How about the BOGO sale on movies. I think that the BDA is finally starting to roll.

Doesn't mean anything when you don't have the content those 90,000 people want to buy.

Sony needs to get rough with some of the holdout studios. Twist their arms and knuckle em til they agree to go BlueRay exclusive.

We need to get rid of HD-DVD now while it's smallish before it gains size and begins festering like those sores that ooze pus and never heals up.

already posted on another thread.

but I agree I saw a survey on HDD i think showing that something like 50% of the poll said they were purchasing their second player.

I do find it amazing that the consumer was willing to buy 1080i regardless of the price it just shows how truly uneducated people are.

Only means that next week they will be having long lines at the return desk when those fools realize they bought something bad that don't have the backing of good old Sony and all the studio power and super secret advance technology and inovatings that they bring to the table!

I laugh at HD-DVD and their patheticness!!

90000 players sold, how much software will actually be sold? Not much would be my guess, unless you have a bunch of people that were at walmart and thought hey, I just saved x amount of money, lets blow it on movies now. But I'm guessing that person just spent it on dvds.

Wow if that's the actual number then Toshiba lost a LOT of money on this. Even if the $500 loss per unit is incorrect, it's still quite high. Remember these units were made a long time ago when prices to manufacture these players was even higher. I don't thienk the $500 is out of question.

That's $4,500,000 lost by Toshiba not to manufacture these players and sell them that $100.
