Drop in the bucket. We need some mass numbers to really start claiming any kind of victory, otherwise it's just a fools paradise and both formats will continue to plug along. No one has delivered any kind of killer blow and with Blu-Ray delaying any kind of killer blow they are letting HD-DVD hang around. It's going to be a mistake.
wars are not won overnight...

they especially arent won with a single title. The main goal is to continually realease quality discs and for all of us "early adopters" to buy as many as we can/want. Steady numbers is the key, not spikes in sales once every few weeks.

Im already seeing the effects of this $99 sale on people who wont buy now until they get it close to that price. I was reading in a fatwallet type deal forum where someone posted a hd-dvd player at $199. Everyone was like that deal is cold and they wont touch it till it comes to $99-130 max.

Thanks hd-dvd you screwed up the hidef adoption rate for the both of us.

they killed their sales until black friday. and after black friday, if they are serious about staying in contentition they have to be willing to sell every a2 at 98 bucks and every a3 at 129. if they don't people are simply going to wait around thinking they are getting skeeted. my question is, is toshiba willing to take that big of a loss on hardware, because if they aren't then it is in their best business intrest right now to throw in the towel, take in a few more years of dvd royalities and collaberate with MS on making a fast, efficient, quality download service.

The way I see it. Blu Ray player $149 on Black Friday available in giant quantities.

GAME SET MATCH BLU RAY! 2-1 suddenly becomes 10-1. Warner, Universal, and Paramount switch. No more format war. I think it's time for the BDA to rip of the band aid that is HD DVD instead of slowly picking at it.

Nobody would expect Blu Ray player prices to stay at $149 since it is Black Friday and EVERYTHING is dirt cheap. I sold of my Panny Plasma earlier this September for more than I paid for it last Black Friday. That scenario would put the fear of god into the HDDVD PRG.

Advertising is a form of investment in your brand. Done right, it's not wasteful expenditure.

Why do e.g. Coke and Pepsi advertise and not worry about competing on price with El Cheapo Brand Supermarket Cola? Why do people knowingly and willingly pay for the advertising in the price tag?

The successful product comes to depend on its advertising. It's probably a much better business decision long-term on the part of Blu-ray manufacturers and studios to invest in advertising rather than attempt to cut prices by the corresponding amount.

Personally, I am not rich. I am not stupid. And I consider my system of choice to have plenty to back up its price tag!!!

Why does she not mention the PS3s Blu-ray capability? Blu-ray was the reason I chose to go with the PS3. I only moderatly play games, so the lack of titles doesnt bother me, and I enjoy my Blu-ray player like nothing else.

For a "social" commentary on boyfriends based on game consoles, its OK. For something written as a MSN article, you kind of expect the XBox slant.

Quote: Ok, it’s true your guy is probably loaded, but when it comes to the smarts, that’s where the similarities end. True, the PS3 has the unique distinction of being the most expensive console, but any guy with the intellectual foresight and financial restraint to read up on it before shelling out $600 for this thing probably realized that the PS3 is not all that its price tag is cracked up to be.

What a load of crap. Ive owned a Ps3 since before christmas and Ive constantly been amazed at all the new features they keep adding (or I keep discovering) ANd that "no games" tag is completely moot now.

I think I made a big mistake by clicking the link cause that moron probably got paid $.0025 for it which is more than that article is worth.

Of what I read, it was more hate on men crap like so many of the commercials, books and TV shows seem to highlight. Honestly, I have a big brass pair and don't give a rats ass what my PS3 says about me as a human being.

Imagine that, Microsoft says that you're stupid for buying the PS3 and that the Xbox 360 is more fun than a barrel of monkeys.
Can you imagine how pissed those monkeys would be for being crammed in a barrel? The would probably gang rape you.

So if a $600 device that plays DVDs, CD, mp3, Blurays and games is "stupid".
Then how stupid is paying that much on a phone (iphone) or even worse shoes!
