Maybe I missed it, but the linked article is not by MSNBC, it's a blog ABOUT the article on MSNBC. Thus the reason it's written by a guy.

Basically the blog writer is an XBox fanboy and got pissed at the MSNBC article.

Apparently none of you took the test in school that started with read this entire paper first then begin, had a ton of questions and at the end said "you are not required to answer any of the questions, just sign your name and turn it in".

I'm guessing most of you answered all the questions without reading the whole thing first.

This is the actual MSNBC article:
Quote:
Guys & their games…
By Margot Carmichael Lester Here are the facts, ladies. Two-thirds of all men in television-owning households between the ages of 18 and 34 have videogame consoles, according to media research company, Nielsen. That means your chances of going with a gaming guy are pretty high.

What can his choice of gaming system tell you about him? We convened a panel of experts to give you the scoop:

* Carl Arinoldo, Long Island, NY-based psychologist
* Ed Magnin, chairman, Game & Simulation Programming, DeVry University’s Dallas Metro campus
* Ted Owen, CEO, GGL, an online gaming network in Santa Monica, CA
* Shane Satterfield, editor-in-chief, Santa Monica-based GameTrailers.com, an online gaming site

Q: What does a PlayStation reveal about a dude?
Arinoldo: The PlayStation 3 may indicate that the user is any “early-adopter,” someone who likes to be the first on the block to have things. Owning the PS3 may also send the message that the person may have deep pockets.

Owen: This is your 21st-century individual who enjoys gaming and demands the best out of his experience—and probably his women. The PS3 guy enjoys life to its fullest. He is sophisticated, intelligent, enjoys competition and is willing to wait for a good thing. He is loyal as well.

Satterfield: This guy is in the know. He knows the right people, goes to the best restaurants and doesn’t wait in line to get into the club. This guy will be difficult to keep up with, as he is always working. When he’s not, he uses videogames as a chance to unwind and relax.

Q. What does a Wii tell a gal about her potential date?
Owen: That he is selfish about his passion, but he knows the Wii is acceptable because of its social interaction functionality. He is smart enough to find a way to continue to game and not scare his date away.

Magnin: Wii says he’s a fun guy. The Wii-mote will force him to get up off the couch and actually get a little exercise while he’s playing. Of all of the consoles, the Wii is probably the best date machine, as a lot more of the games appeal to both sexes. Challenge him to a game of tennis or bowling.

Satterfield: This guy is not the typical slack-jawed, bleary-eyed gamer who wants to sit on the couch staring blankly at the screen for hours on end. You can rest assured that this type of guy is smart with his money as the Wii is only $250 compared to $399 for the Xbox 360 and $599 for the PlayStation.

Q. And what does the Xbox divulge about its owner?
Arinoldo: There is a wide variety of games available through the Xbox 360... so one may be better able to find games in common with a significant other who may not be an avid gamer. Preferring the Xbox 360 may say that the owner is willing to play cooperatively.

Magnin: Xbox 360 says he’s probably into serious gaming. Take a look at his game stats. Ask him to show you how many hours he spent playing his favorite games. Many guys log 100 to 200 hours on their favorite games.

Satterfield: These guys tend to like extremely violent, visceral games, as well as the social aspect of connecting with friends online. They may be living out an active and social life through games, because they are a bit on the shy side. Xbox 360 fans tend to make good money and like to spend it. These guys are passionate about gaming and that transfers into the bedroom as well.

Of course, these expert opinions won’t apply to all men who own these consoles, so don’t consider them absolutes. But they should help you gain some solid clues about that videogame-playing guy you’re seeing.

North Carolina-based freelancer Margot Carmichael Lester also contributes to Monster.com and The L.A. Business Journal.

So "Margot Carmichael Lester" is a dude? And after he shot his parents he went on to become a columnist?

I hate it, I'm next to broke, I did my research b4 selling out the $600 I knew what Blu-ray was I knew the Cell Processor was a huge improvement and I didn't buy the 360 as it only has a DVD drive and will give you the ring of death sooner or later... so I'm broke and intelligent by her standards, yet I only own a PS3. perhaps she needs to research the technology b4 she starts talking about it.

Ok, the original post:

How does everyone here feel about this article?

Personally, I am not rich. I am not stupid. And I consider my system of choice to have plenty to back up its price tag!!!
linked to a BlOG (written by the dude) who was blogging about the original article.

Most of the comments, if not all, address the BLOG in this post, not the original article.

make sense?

I thought MSN was Microsoft network. Apparently it's short for MSNBC, why the hell abbreviate by dropping two letters.? That really grinds my gears.
I don't pay any attention to the news unless its about a hurricane headed my way. The politics are always influenced, the stories are almost all about suffering and tragedy. I just hate watching news and hearing about rapes and people burning alive in buildings, etc.
MSNBC is part of the Universal family, and therefore have reason to be anti PS3.

This article is such a load of crap I don't know where to begin.
The PS3 is my console of choice and I am not rich by any means.
It handles SACD discs and decimates DSD to PCM at 24/176.4 into 5.1 through HDMI, which is substantially better than most SACD standalone players in North America.
It upscales DVD's to 1080p and passes all upscaling tests on the Silicon Optix HQV benchmark test disc.
It upscales all PSOne and PS2 games to 1080p and enhances and sharpens the graphics.
You can install a secondary OS on it like Linux.
You can download trailers, surf the internet and stream content from your PC through the PS3 to your HDTV.
You can play PS3 games on it and there are plenty of good games available.
Oh yes, you can also play Blu-ray discs on it, the high definition disc format that's currently winning the format war in North America 2:1. That's right, the only HD format that Die Hard, Spider-man, Simpsons Movie, Fantastic Four, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Pirates of the Caribbean, Ratatouille, Cars, Superbad, Lost Season 3, Hairspray, Rush Hour 3, Cars, Independence Day, Cast Away and other great flicks are coming to in 2007.
The only HD format supported by Sony, Philips, Panasonic, Loewe, Denon, Pioneer, Sharp, JVC, Hitachi, Mitsubishi, Marantz and other top name CE's. All except Toshiba of course, who supports the losing HD DVD format.
The Playstation 3 is also the only Blu-ray player available right now that is guaranteed to be upgradeable to Blu-ray Profile 1.1 and 2.0, allowing for 1080p PIP and web-enabled content - all for only $399, including Spider-man 3 on Blu-ray Disc.
Wow, I'm neither rich nor a thick twat. Thanks for an incredibly uneducated commentary.

I got caught up in the frenzy and had one in my hand, but put it back because I knew I was going to regret it because it is a very cheap player and doesn't do what I wanted.

I preordered a Samsung 5000 instead.
Most of the movies I want are on Blu, but for those that I want and are not, I don't have to suffer for it.

toshiba's number or any HD DVD backers should be divided by two to get to the actual number. They tell lies

I actually purchased one, brought it home, asked some questions about it on AVS, got so rudely treated by the obnoxious little pit bulls over there that I took it back and went out and bought a dozen Blu-ray discs instead. This week, I'll pick up a Panasonic BD30.

Luckily, they caused me to come to my senses before it was too late. My $98 expenditure turned into a $500 expenditure. What's that tell you about which I place the most value on?

And yet I see 71:29 in the weekly Nielsens in favor of Blu even with these cheap A2's out there.

It's one of the things I warned the mods of, back when I went there. AVS had a great reputation for being the go to place to get help with your equipment (still does outside of HDM), and the attitudes being expressed at anyone daring to mention a single issue with HD DVD should have been very disturbing to the mods.

Did you go back to AVS and thank them for getting you to take it back?
