NPD declined to report specific unit sales shares for each of the retailers but noted that Best Buy is far in front. Amazon.com and the rest are mostly clustered together for the second through fifth spots.
Please stop putting so much emphasis on Amazon. We've known for quite a while now that they don't amount to squat. |

actually if they are ahead "during" the week they will scream victory from the rooftops before the real numbers come out on Friday. That's why they announced Transformers on a Monday cuz they knew very well the BOGO would steal their thunder. |

The only reason I used this as a tool, is because it is the only tool i know of that has up-to-the-hour results and gives me a day-to-day stat of the current sales of BD and HD-DVD. I know that Amazon is only one small piece in a much bigger puzzle, which is why I use Neilson. But Neilson is always a week behind and only out once a week. This at least gives me an idea of what is going on. Is this HD-DVD sale only on Amazon? Hey.. if you are going to merge these put a note somewhere please. That confuzzled me. |

Who in the hell is losing money then? Thats insane. My point is both are giving away alot of free movies. I already have a PS3 but the free 10 movies plus 5 free mail in is to good to pass up so I guess I will be picking up another one for the bedroom. These deals are killing my wallet. Since downloads that match the quality of BD are decades away, and there's really no reason to switch to whatever comes next (we have 100GB quad layer discs that work in already released players if we need them), I think we could have Blu-Ray with us for at least twenty years if not more. There are HVDs and PCDs being developed that would allow 50 terabytes of storage on a single layer, but I think Blu-Ray will be the last popular physical media, before downloads replace it decades from now.
It's a Blu future. |

5 years remaining dominant and 10 years until bargain bin. The 3.9 tb holo. discs and ultra-fast downloads will take hold during this time.
Might be sooner, depending on how quickly BD+ is cracked. |

Optical is the next logical progression - probably 3" disc at that. But they have to perfect the technology. Still, no one is planning on pissing on the consumer AGAIN with a newer technology when DVD is still in the picture.
Then again, memory stick devices could be next. You don't need semiconductors to make read-only memory devices. |

I think we will see something new in the next 6-7 years or so.

People trade these online like mp3s. I'm not promoting this, I'm just letting you know that "decades away" is yesterday. I'm happy to watch BD movies on my PS3, but the future is now. If they had some sort of pay-per-download of these high-def movies, someone would make a killing. |

It is difficult to say. However, even with advances and increasing storage capacity and faster download speeds it is not a guarantee that we will see changes within 10 years. Not only will TVs have to do better than 1080p but as mentioned earlier transmitted content would also have to improve. The cost associated with doing this is substantial and would take an act of government. Even the current law does not regulate HD transmissions only digital transmission requirements by February 2009. The balance between cost, convenience, quality and need/want must exist for there to be adoption of something new, for most consumers anyway.
