Looking forward to watching this. With a grandparent in assisted living it hits home. Hopkins had the upset win last night for Best Actor and he looks amazing in the trailer.

while I thought it was an excellent movie, this isn't one I'd consider watching again, that's not really a negative, but the rewatch value isn't that high IMO.
I miss video stores, because I'd rent this to see the extras, if there are any on this release. |

Simultaneously incredibly funny and in incredibly poor taste, LOL. For whatever use it may be to anyone, my take on the film is, as if the preceding 80 minutes or so weren’t melancholy and distressing enough, the final scene of THE FATHER nearly causes the viewer physical pain to get through. It is every mortal’s fear of aging and advancing decrepitude writ large. With all due respect to the amazing Chadwick Boseman, Anthony Hopkins came by his Oscar quite honestly.

Sorry, my sometimes dark sense of humor gets the best of me. It was painful to experience, I agree, and Anthony Hopkins’ performance was just incredible. Having seen and dealt with this subject matter I felt that this film respectfully handled dementia in a way that makes the viewer experience their pain; such empathy. It very much reminded me of Ron Howard’s A Beautiful Mind.

No spoilers, but I found the structure of this movie really great. Just my two cents ![]() |

I found this quite surprisingly, because it's a closed-in type drama which normally doesn't scream "look how pretty I am!". Almost skipped it, because of all the nonsense surrounding the last Oscars, which rubbed off on the movies in my opinion. Glad I saw it, because I found Hopkin's performance really great (and the others too). |

Just finished watching "The Father" on Starz...I'm glad Hopkins won his second Oscar (he deserved to be among those who had won two), but overall his performance here wasn't on the same level as "Nixon," "The Bounty," "The Remains of the Day," "Titus," "The World's Fastest Indian" or a few others he's given. Still, he dominated the film in a way a lead performance should! I'm thrilled he won!!
