Not a total waste since it will include a UV copy for those that dont have a 3DTV.

It is a total waste. Blu-ray is far superior than UV, plus people want the steelbook casing. If the argument is 'just use the UV code'..then it pretty much comes to 'just by the amaray'.

Then good for us who want the steelbook...less competition. I will just double dip if indeed it doesnt include the regular BD feature film.

Not a total waste... One could get the SteelBook and try to offload the 3D here or on eBay. I'm sure there's loads of people who just want the 3D version. Use that money to recoup the cost of whatever version was desired. Just an idea

But it's not a steelbook. I wanted The Hobbit: Extended Edition in steelbook format but the only steelbook is the Blu-Ray 3D ONLY. Blu-Ray 3D would not include the commentary. I don't own a 3D TV nor do I want to and I would rather watch this movie in 2D anyways. I don't understand why they are not including the 2D version in the steelbook. Oh well. I'm just buying the regular blu-ray for $24.99. I really wish it was a steelbook but I'll live.

People are talking about including the extended 2D version in the extended 3D Steelbook. You really seem lost...

I think you guys are getting confused, I want the steelbook but why should I have to buy the 3d set and it not come with the 2d blu ray like it normally would with every other release. I would have to buy both versions to get a complete set which is going to be expensive

Not something I would personally buy, but that cover art is pretty unique and cool-looking.
I have these and love them: https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/The-L...Blu-ray/71742/

If you can find them on eBay, I highly recommend picking them up.
