This is probably the first one I won't bother pre-ordering.

Posted this in response to another question on another thread....but since it's specific to Kino Lorber, here goes:

Many of the July titles from Kino (Sabata, The Scalphunters) are now selling (pre-order) for $16.99 on Amazon. I think I remember many of these being $20+ when pre-orders first went up. I will be curious to see if this happens with the next batch of August/September/October releases as I have numerous pre-orders for some of these titles which are still priced over $20 (the August pre-order titles from Kino are priced at $26.98 or $27.98, and the September pre-orders are all priced $20.97). Thank goodness for the Amazon pre-order guarantee!

Thanks for the heads up. Ordered Sabata, Duel at Diablo and Scalphunters for $55.50 (shipping was free). Now this is reasonable

Hey mate, thanks for the reminder of Amazon on the TT thread, sure enough I just pre-ordered Sabato, The Scalpunters (and the new Yes album - I'm a prog rock tragic lol!) and the shipping came to just under $11.00!

Now I REALLY wish I'd ordered `Duel at Diablo' at the same time, but I didn't want these items delayed a whole other week!

You're welcome. Looks like a systematic reduction in price by month. I wouldn't be surprised if the current $27 titles are $16.99 by the month of release.

Thanks for the heads up (from the TT thread). Just went ahead and ordered 4 of the July titles and may order some more. Hopefully the Bronson movies will drop as well (I will definitely buy those not matter what).

About a year ago, there was a thread started stating that Orson Welle's The Trial was to be coming out in North America from Kino Lorber. We're obviously still waiting, but wondering if anybody has heard/seen anything indicating that it may come out under this Studio Classics banner instead? Seems like it would be a good fit.

Well, so far, the Studio Classics banner seems limited to titles licensed from MGM, and The Trial would not be one of those. Maybe possibly Kino will burn through all of the MGM titles quickly, and release non-MGM-owned titles under the SC banner (if they don't end up licensing more titles from MGM). But unless they step up their releases even more, it'll be May or June before they've burned through the MGM-licensed titles.

Ah, you're right. I didn't even take that into consideration. Perhaps it'll still come out sometime in the not too distant future then.

The Trial had an arthouse Rialto restoration, so, like Godzilla, it could be on Criterion's watch.

It would be cool if Kino had SCORPIO (1972) on the way. The old DVD isn't even 16:9 and it has a great cast Burt Lancaster and Alain Delon. I could also see TT doing this release also.

There was also a rumor a long time ago that Kino had The Man on the Eiffel Tower but nothing became of that...bad film elements ?

Can't wait for Topkapi! The non-anamorphic DVD is a travesty (and out of print, to boot). A great tribute to the late Maximillian Schell this year too...maybe Judgment at Nurnberg will be coming soon too?

I've read some really foul things about Meteor and avalanche. Any thoughts from you people here?
