But doing a grade as part of a suite of deliverables still doesn't = guaranteed UHD Blu-ray release. Disney painstakingly remastered 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea in 4K a good seven years ago now, but have we even got it on plain ol' BD yet? Have we bollocks.
People saw things like that pdf and put two and two together, fair enough, but Disney have other plans and they're taking UHD Blu one new movie at a time. Them getting Warners to author the UHD of Prestige speaks for itself. Last edited by Geoff D; 01-25-2018 at 08:45 PM. |

I'd been told by multiple people that met with Disney that they had titles done and ready for release on UHD Blu that haven't been. Disney may be weighing catalog releases based on sales of new releases though. So maybe when they see the numbers they'd like from day and date 4K releases they'll open up on catalog titles. Or maybe they're more interested in streaming at this point.

Wow, I didn't realise that the downscaling would operate in such linear terms, that by throwing away 75% of the resolution of the DCP you're also throwing away 75% of the bitrate. That's kinda baking my gourd a little.

Yes, it is using the Imax version of the Alexa 65 as its main camera (unknown if it shot all or most). But that does not necessitate a 4k finish. Guardians 2 was shot at 8k with Red, and Thor 3 was shot at 6.5k with the regular Alexa 65. So 4k is not a given, especially with the large majority of shots using vfx. Hopefully that vfx insider that came and went so quickly is correct in that Infinity War will be Marvel's first 4k finish.
