I don't know about keener eyes but I do work for a media facility and QC is part of my job. I haven't seen any Netflix material tho. Everything at the show just looked compromised in some way. The Sony stand had two 4K panels, one normal and one HDR. Well, the normal one had bright colours but looked blocky and the HDR one had better clarity but looked washed out. Other stands looked good on statics but as soon as motion kicked in it fell over, The Life of Pi was one such example. When the whale jumps out the water it can't cope and falls over just like FreeView.

Scenarist demo'd a disc authored by their engineering team in the prototype Samsung player - including Top and Pop-Up menus.

Their one caveat was the disc burnt was a BD-R 25, and Single Layer discs are not part of the UHD BD spec. There is also no guarantee that recordable discs will be supported by players...

"Christopher Neely from Scenarist provided a demonstration and discussion of the company's new authoring system for Ultra HD Blu-ray, Scenarist UHD. Mr. Neely then played a disc authored with the system on the new Samsung Ultra HD Blu-ray player prototype which was attached to a Samsung JU9500 UHD/HDR display. The Ultra HD Player played the disc smoothly and the 4K stream was ultra clear and sharp. As a part of his presentation, Mr. Neely described the company's new Scenarist UHD Workgroup which includes the ATEME TITAN UHD/HDR encoder, Scenarist UHD authoring, the DTS:X Encoder and Digital Bridge Export Production tools."

[QUOTE=Geoff D;11310187]Yes, the interview went up yesterday: https://www.avforums.com/article/ult...levision.11916

I wish someone could get some information from Basse or another UHD Alliance spokesperson about the consumer testing. Basse seems to emphasize brightness rather than near black performance as the criteria for a "premium experience" Fox and Samsung are closely linked in the Alliance and that makes me wonder if those hundreds of consumers were all forced to watch content on a SUHD Samsung. Panasonic has joined the Alliance. Perhaps they got their new CZ950 into the tests.

It'd certainly make sense that most of the testing was done on LCD models.

Classic paper from IBC 2014, which I also had the pleasure of attending with my lovely wife…..http://digital-library.theiet.org/co...9/ib.2014.0031

“…..for studios with movie content we made the decision a long time ago and the BDA as well that it’s going to be PQ.”

Over the recent months, one problem/challenge with PQ (SMPTE 2084) in predicting the quality and precision to the original creative intent (thee master) by different HDR-capable TVs showing HDR content has been that despite the fact that EOTF radiometric luminance performance is specified for a given code value…..in practice, different brand/model consumer displays implement their own compression curve with an asymptote compatible with the maximum brightness that TV can achieve and these compression curves have yet to be standardized.

Can any insider or outsider share some information on the Scenarist UHD Workgroup Digital Bridge Export Production tools?,

Did Neely just talk about it or was it demonstrated in Amsterdam?

It would be great to take your word for granted, but by the time this format hits the market I wouldn't be surprised if the BDA themselves don't know what they have actually released.

Heh. With that in mind I guess I should be thankful that whenever a HDR/P3 disc needs to be reduced to SDR/709 by the player it'll aim for the same basic output of 100-odd nits every time, although even then there are three different HDR-to-SDR conversion methods in the UHD BD spec depending on the HDR method used! Or is the CRI conversion part of the Dolby & Philips conversion methods by default? This keeps getting better by the minute.

I don't agree. Published 22 September, 2015.

Most plasma owners will move to OLED. They consider LCD an expletive.

The UHD Alliance should not ignore OLED technology nor relegate OLED displays to a non premium category for its decal, simply because it does not reach 1000+ cd/m2.

As a plasma owner I will never touch OLED as a tv tech, and I dislike LCD

I'm a former plasma owner, and I used to look down on LCDs. But my LG 4K LCD blows me away. I have no complaints.

Hopefully going to get a 4K panel next year. What does the compression look like on blacks ( night scenes )?

Mark Johnson from DTS did a presentation, no demonstration in Amsterdam.
