I love your analogy . Wabo, your self-deprecating manner is soooo refreshing as compared to all the “I’m proud to have done this” or “I’m proud to have spoken or moderated at” by all the insecure entertainment industry people posting regularly on twitter or marketing sites like linkedin who need constant acknowledgement as to their self-worth, when in fact, it’s their freakin job to begin with and no matter what the profession, people expect good work out of you/them. And, to keep it all in perspective, with all the promotion as to their personal achievements on this or that lecture circuit, it’s not like they’re solving world hunger, global warming or helping cure disease.

Anyhow, filming for Top Gun: Maverick at this location in the valley wrapped today, so regular patrons (hailing by motorsickle or car) can come for eats, I’d imagine starting tomorrow. Support the ownership, good people.

ICYMI, follow-up HDR update as to a discussion from last winter/spring -

as well as direct view cinema display providers (follow-up to this past heads-up to Pete - https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...e#post14648986 with his HPA presentation now available online in pdf form, see - http://www.isdcf.com/meeting/2018-02...nd-of-Proj.pdf ) have pretty much been driving cinema HDR characteristics/interest rather than the DCI (except for its involvement in compliance testing for IMD and content security provisions for direct view cinema displays [Samsung])

but word is, the DCI may be slowly becoming more involved....

Yes but the problem is that we'll probably lose to Burnley next week, rendering the point useless as I'd rather have taken it off one of our relegation rivals than miserable Mourinho's lot.

Question:

Just got a 4k player and hooked it up to an 1.4 hdmi port. My tv only has one 2.0 port and that is where I have my Apple TV 4K. I compared my disc and streaming of Thor Ragnarok and while both looked great, the colors on Apple TV popped slightly more. I was under the impression 1.4 vs 2.0 only mattered at content more than 24p. Am I wrong? Or is it a calibration/setting issue?

Lol. I tell ya, PM, it's an uphill battle. I feel rode hard and put away wet. But that's why God gave us tequila and beer. Tomorrow will be one of those days as I go in for an MRI on my knee. Here's my ten cents, my two cents is free and it's a 2-for-1... don't eat the yellow snow and don't get old. First round is on Al Bundy.

One step closer to an HDR cinema specification

...The two draft documents are highly technical, complete with specifications and formulas, but can essentially be boiled down to this: DCI wants to use PQ (Perceptual Quantizer), 12-bit video for HDR, a minimum black level of 0.005 nits, and 500 nits peak brightness. It is based on the P3D65 white point and a color space that corresponds to DCI-P3, which consumer HDR TVs also use.

So, basically, you’re stalking Tom Cruise?

I thought that was Ben Stiller’s job.

a lot of facilities give out a complimentary CD of the images of the scan, might be interesting to ask for the freebie and post a pic if your ACL is flapping in the wind

meanwhile, don’t move during the exam, concentrate on something you love to do, works for me
