I've it set on Direct, but that menu isn't available when it's outputting DV. So the question was whether or not DV mode remembered that setting, or went 'f*** it' and reverted back to Auto.
Oh, Sony... I'd have be more offended by Ride Along 2, but okay. |

FWIW the Auto noise reduction only affected sub-4K sources on the X800, one would hope that the DV mode is the same. Doesn't help if you're forcing DV when watching sub-4K stuff, but proper DV should be fine.

Gosh. Took my Sony x700 to my other TV room to try out on my G6 OLED. BTW I also have a different model Sony player in that room.
Ain't this madness. My x700's remote will control both Sony players at the same time. Make them both do an identical dance together. Odd. I can't get the Sony x700 to display the Home menu. This other TV room has no connection to wired Ethernet. I wanted the SetUp menu to prep for WiFi connection. But the Home menu only flashed on for a second. Then TV Screen went dark. I took the x700 back to its original TV room, connected Ethernet and everything worked fine. I guess thats where Im going to let it Squat. Last edited by E6AtmosVuduDV; 06-24-2018 at 11:35 PM. That's one of the reasons why my Sony Region A player is unplugged, until it's actually required. The other being that one of the button combinations to enter the x700 and 800's setup menus, enters a service menu in said Region A player and you can't exit it by simply pressing the power button.

Does this mean they have put DV on the US release but not on the UK release? On a forum on this site when I asked a similar question the answers were basically "if it's on one release, you can be pretty sure it's on the release in all the other countries too" Then again not all US releases are clear - I imported Annihilation BB 4K exclusive and the specs on this site say it has HDR-10 and Dolby Vision but I have examined the cover and it just says it has HDR and here are no Dolby Vision logos or indications about HDR-10. I was so hoping that instead of me having to tell the X-700 about DV, it would tell me (so I could add definitive information to this site) but that sadly is not possible (at least yet!). |

If you press the display button on the x700's remote, it tells you exactly what type of HDR's on the disc, even if DV mode is switched on.

It does make it even more inexplicable that if the X-700 can find out the type of HDR is on the disc there is no 'Auto' setting that allows you to say "If it's DV use DV, if it's HDR-10, use HDR-10" rather than having to manually select DV On or Off but maybe that's a weird software hurdle that is hard to explain! You're welcome.
Yes, while the TV will always tell you that its a DV signal, the x700 is able to differentiate. |

Having this player for a week now with my new LG b7 player and most scenes look amazing, but in low light or washed out scenes on regular blu rays, things look blocky and noisy. Tried the same scenes on my old plasma and they looked fine. I don’t know if it’s the player or the tv.

If you have two or three Oppo players in your rack no problemo, each player can be set to operate independently from the others. With Sony, Samsung, ...I just don't know why they are still living in the dark ages of frustration, stress and so much troubles having many units of the same brand going nuts all together in sync when you want only one specific component to turn on. I mean, do they have a solution like Oppo does or they just don't care about advancing with the electronic technologies? Do they know the year is 2018 and not 1978? Too bad Oppo Digital closed doors; they had so much to teach other manufacturers on living in harmony...most of the time. Oh well, c'est la vie. |
