I haven’t had a single disc playback issue to include Ready Player One and the Mission Impossibles. The streaming apps however have been absolutely terrible and always freeze and randomly shutoff (through WiFi and wired).

I stopped it 20 minutes and started it back up this morning. The player froze at the startup screen and required me to power cycle it by removing the power cord. Upon starting it up, it said there was no disc inside, had to open up the tray and close it again to get it to read.

I'm going to try more movies tonight and hopefully it doesn't happen.

Mine has been doing exactly the same thing. It starts to choke on my 4K discs about 3/4 way through the film. Skipping, black screens, glitchy menus. Very frustrating....

I had a lot of the same freezing and skipping issues with a bunch of X800's I had with the last I had making it about 6 months before making it extremely hard to to make it through a movie.

On my first X700 and so far so good, hope I don't jinx myself, but I have watched maybe 15-20 or so movies and not a problem with any so far but I can only assume time will tell. Not sure what Sony is doing wrong with some of these players to exhibit this same behavior. I know for some cases it is dirty discs but in other cases it is definitely the player.

I do love the performance of this player especially for the price. Every other Blu-ray player in my home are also Sony's, all working flawlessly, but if this one starts acting up by any chance then I may pony up for the UB820 maybe later in the year if it goes on sale. Hopefully my X700 just stays rock solid!!

Ordered a UBP-X700 this morning, added a 3 year Warranty for just because. It should be here Thursday, I suppose I'd better go buy at least one 4k Blu-ray before then. Choices , choices so many choices.

A Few Good Men should be on your short list. This is what 35mm film at 4k is all about. Good use of Atmos too.

I'll take that into consideration for sure. I don't have "Atmos" speakers installed yet. I am working on a mount for those at the moment.

I have had mine for a while and no issues whatsoever. If a movie skips or freezes its due to a smduge on the disk.

I bought this a few months ago and made it region free last week.
It works marvelous. No problems whatsoever.
My wifi connection upstairs is crap, so streaming from Netflix has some bandwith issues, but as soon as the ethernet went in everything was fine.

I guess I have to rephrase. I had it made region free by a guy that specializes himself in making players region free. A Dutch guy.
I wish I could have done it myself.

The region free setting is firmware proof.
You need to press one of the colored buttons to switch the region as it doesn’t do it automatically.
Red for A, green for B and yellow for C
The DVD regions are all automatically set.

Reading through this thread it seems others have had the same problem I did tonight. Was watching A Quiet Place and halfway through the screen just went black, as if the player had switched off, then came back on again 5-10 seconds later.

No previous issues.

So is there any fix for this issue? Is it the HDMI cable or possibly the TV? Or is it the player and something I am going to have to live with?

I watched A Quiet Place on this player without problems. Don’t know what the problem could be on your end.

That’s very strange! I don’t think it’s a player issue, but I rather think it’s a cable issue. But you probably haven’t changed your set up after the first two watches right? Very odd !

No my set up is the same and no issues previously. Not had the chance to watch anything since but the cable is only a year or so old and worked fine on my previous Blu Ray player.
