I really wish that there was another affordable player like this one with less disc issues and automatic DV HDR switching.

Have you looked into the Philips BDP-7502? Checks all the boxes you mentioned.

When the disc starts to play the FBI warning it shows up bright for 1 second and then goes darker and the rest of the disc just plays way too dark. I tried the 4K Sony player on my brothers non 4K TV and it looked fine. I don't get it. It's like there must be a 4K switch on the player or TV remote that I am not pushing. Like I said, all the non 4K Blu-rays and DVD's look great. My TV and Blu-ray player have broken down in less then a month and I was hoping this would go well, but my bad luck keeps holding. The guy at 220 Electronics says he has never heard of the problem before.
Turn up the brigthness, the player have picture settings. You can calibrate contrast and bright. I have one configuration for blu rays and another for 4k movies. And it looks great.

No, you can’t just turn up brightness without any reference point. Brightness is actually black level, not panel brightness/backlight.

The only time my X700 has frozen during playback was when HAL was being shut down in 2001: A Space Odyssey on 4K UHD. I thought the timing was kind of amusing, so it didn't upset me.

Only one freeze as well during Ready player one UHD, knock on wood I got it for $179 so not bad, the DV thing is not an issue for me the tv flags me if it's in DV mode at the beginning so I just change it if I forgot.

I just got this player yesterday. Now I just need a 4K TV and a new receiver. New speakers and a subwoofer would't hurt either. If anyone wants up to set up a gofundme page to help I wouldn't mind.

I played two BDs, one SACD and two DVDs on it so far without any problems. I only have two UHD discs that came with steelbooks but they both played through flawlessly. Of course I don't have Dolby Vision on and the HDR10 is being used since it is hooked up to a 1080P TV so...

Picked this up today. My first step in updating my system to support 4K and I came to my first hurdle. So rather than buy an additional HDMI I thought I would share the HDMI cable I'm using for my PS3. When I use the x700 I just unplug the HDMI from the PS3 and plug it into the back of the x700. It stays on the same port in the back of my receiver. So I put in a few blu rays into the new player but couldn't get 5.1 Master Audio to run with it. I use my PS3 for my surround and it works great. Is there something Im doing wrong or not doing? I'm running an HDMI from my plasma (2013 Panasonic Viera) to the receiver then from the receiver to the 4K player. Pretty much all my hardware is pre 2013 except for the new player. Please help!

HDMI's need to upgraded too. They have inexpensive ones online. Check what your hdmi cable says. "Speed with Ethernet" etc. That tells you the speed of the cable for compatibility with latest video/audio features with 4K.

So I just bought a new external hard drive (it's an ADATA HV620) and my X700 doesn't recognize the contents for some reason. Anybody else ever had this problem? The device appears under the USB icon but when I select it, none of its contents are there. I formatted it in exFAT so I'm not totally sure why it's not working. It's not that it's not recognizing the device, it's just that nothing appears when I select it via the player. This is my second external (my first being a Seagate) and I haven't had this issue before. My Seagate always pops up and its contents are visible every time. Anyway, anyone else ever had a similar issue with their player and were you able to solve it?

Hoping it's not the brand but I just might go back and exchange it for another Seagate if this doesn't end up working out.

EDIT: LOL so I figured it out. I looked at the specs in Disk Utility and saw that my Seagate is MBR partitioned and I partitioned my new one in GUID (which the Sony doesn't recognize). Makes sense now.

I see. Question: Can it play 4K .m2ts files with dolby vision properly? I plan on backing up my library to HDD (tired of swapping out discs). Thanks!

I've had very few issues with this player. And I don't mind the DV manual switch either.

However, I've still been slightly disappointed with it's overall picture quality. It just seems flat and lacking that UHD pop sometimes.

Like has been said, you might need new cables. You'll want them to get full benefits from HDR etc anyways. Myself and a lot of other people use these:

Also, might be a dumb thing to check, but the 700 has 2 hdmi ports - 1 for a/v and 1 just for audio.

I have a quite a few movies that has either 7.1 or has Dolby Atmos that's on my external HD and the x700 will not decode even the 7.1. But if I hook the HDD up to my WD Live it will play anything in 7.1 or Atmos. So it has to be the x700 that wont decode.
