Does anyone know what, if anything, is different about the X-700/M? The box lists 2018, 2021 as far as trademark.

Is it possible to change the color of the subtitles with this player. White subtitles are usually to bright when watching HDR movies.

Try using the PS5 media remote. That thing is total garbage!

I have had a 4K TV for a few years (LG 6300UK - 55 Inch) and until a few weeks ago, I did not have a Blu-ray player. I primarily would stream things and watch DVDs on my Oppo 971H that I've had since 2006.

But the Oppo began to die, with flickering problems as soon as it turned on, no matter which DVI-HDMI cable I used, and issues with discs that it used to play without a problem (a variety of things were happening, no sound if the track wasn't AC3, or not playing the files at all, etc.).

So I bought an all-region version of the Sony UBP-X700.

While the Blu-ray capability was nice, the DVD playback was very poor. The image is soft, people look like they've been filtered through heavy amount of DNR, and the whole thing gives me a headache if I give it more than 5 minutes. I have played with the settings and am at a loss. The same exact discs on the same exact TV look infinitely better on the 15 year old Oppo player.

Any suggestions?

It seems to me that DVD playback on UHD machines to be mediocre regardless of brand. I don’t know why.

Geoff posted awhile back that you need to choose Direct under options during playback or there is DNR applied for bluray/DVD content

I put it on Direct and that seemed to bring the grain back, so thank you. The eye strain is still a bit much due to the softness of the image, though. Do you know which posts in this (92 page) thread suggest proper calibration? I've gone through the first handful of pages with no luck so far.

Do I need to leave on the HDMI Deep Color Output (I currently have it off)? The 24P Output? I currently have it on auto. 4k Upscale Setting on Auto 2. YCbCR/RGB is on Auto. I am open to whatever makes the image look better.

I use Auto on all those except 4K upscaling which I leave off cause I prefer the TV do that, if your player is upscaling DVD to 4K that might be the issue but I don't know what Auto 2 does for that setting

I neee help guys. My player doesn't output dolby vision. When I change settings to dolby vision I see a black screen. I can hear the audio but no picture. I updates my tv (Sony x900h) software. Checked hdmi inputs set to eArc and the player is plugged in the eArc port but I can't see dolby vision. I can see HDR10 but not vision. Could it be the hdmi cable? But in that case how the same cable is handling Hdr10 perfectly? Do vision require more powerful cable? Any fixes please?

Is the Sony X700 still one of the best overall 4K players to buy or is there another brand or model that has far superseded now?

Panasonic's is considered to be better but if you're on a budget the X700 is not a bad player. I use one myself.

You've hit OPTIONS and turned all the guff in the Picture Settings off, right? MNR, BNR, and another NR I think they're called.

I just got one too.

I'm wondering if it's really necessary to connect it to the Internet? I already do all my streaming via Apple TV.

Would it make a very big difference if I never downloaded any software updates?

I heard the Dolby Vision support originally came with software update. Does it have it out of the box?

I watched some reviews on Youtube and the screen settings menu should have Dolby Vision Output option.
