When trying to play Curzon's Memories of Murders 4K, the top menu does not appear at all using this player. Plays fine on my brother's PlayStation 5.

Have to return my copy of Memories, alas.

I wiped the heck out of the Batman 1989 UHD today. Soap and warm water. Then finished with a microfiber cloth. It still has the same problem. Just doesn't like chapters 17-18. From 16 or so, it'll fast forward through those chapters, but starting on those chapters, it just doesn't want to play.

Have you tried it in a different player?

One very common culprit is storing it in a credenza that has insufficient airflow and/or a closed door in front of it.

I've been wondering this as well. The most recent Sony firmware update for this model (vM43.R.0292) was released on 5/30/22.

Hmmm. I thought after the mystical turning everything off, this player becomes bulletproof. I guess not.

Damn, only advice I can think of is to give it a good wipedown with a very fine grade microfiber cloth and some cleaning solution. If that doesn't fix it, it's probably a defective disc.

Panasonic UHD players look terrible for DVDs and SD content on BDs. I would avoid if you play DVDs with any regularity. Blu-ray will look roughly the same on either brand.

Hello all, I'm considering buying the Sony UBP-X700 in a couple months as my wal-mart keeps it in stock and also I love the price point. I have currently only one other 4k blu ray player the Panasonic DP-UB150-K which is a fine player btw but doesn't support Dolby Vision which for my bedroom I need. Now I've heard the UBP-X700 locks up/freezes but I'm wondering was that an old problem that was fixed, or what? If not should I buy one for Dolby Vision at under $170 dollars?

Yeah, I hope it doesn't turn out to be just a false rumor. I don't know how long the global rollout of firmware updates took to complete from start to finish in the past.

The firmware hasn't been updated in 2.5 years now, so some skepticism isn't out of line. Previous to that, it seemed like they put out roughly two updates a year (though I might be misremembering).

I'm not saying that it hasn't been released or is vaporware, but Sony seems to be treating this with a very light touch. Maybe this time next year it will be in wide circulation.

DVD looks great on X700, not as good as my HD-XA2, but good, much better than the Panny. The X700 is way better at everything that's not UHD, which is the funny part to me, it fails at the most important thing someone buying it for.

150 and 450 they use the same soc as the X700, the differences shouldn't be significant.

Currently down to $159 at Walmart.com. That's getting close to the my price point to buy it and keep it in the closet. How much lower does it go?

Sony's UBP-X700 4K UHD Blu-ray player is on sale for $159.99 at all authorized dealers now. Looking at Sony's Promotional RoadMap the price only goes up and does not go any lower.

At that price I might have to buy a backup, maybe two.

Is the freezing issue just on 4k discs or also on regular blu-ray discs?

Just 4k's in my experience. Been flawless for blurays (I use it as my main bluray player)

On mine it’s random. It happens often when the player is powered up and stuck there until I unplug and replug the power.

Sony itself is selling for $179.99 but also offers a $25 off coupon for new customers on their website. Citi Merchant Offers has 6% off Sony, and cashback websites could take off another 1-2% (if the use of the coupon doesn't invalidate it).

I just use my player for CD/SACD and blu-ray music discs now. I have a Samsung TV that I love so Dolby Vision isn't needed and I play all UHD/BD/DVDs with the PS5. Never had a problem with a disc on the PS5.
