Will Vudu app do only 1080p(known as HDX).
Or will it do 4K. What about HDR, DV.
I have not had a chance to check netflix or vudu as soon as I get home from work I will check it out and let you know.

... .
Both Netflix and Amazon do Dolby Digital Plus, but for Netflix you need to be in HD tier service and above,

However on older OPPO players like the BDP-103D there is a menu selection to turn on HDCD decoding in the player. When HDCD decoding is turned on in the player, expanded dynamic stereo audio quality is experienced over both HDMI and the analog audio outputs (Only works for audio CD's encoded with HDCD).

It is disappointing that HDCD decoding was dropped from all or most A/V receivers. Also all existing 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray players do not offer any HDCD decoding feature in the menu. Maybe that will change on a second generation 4K OPPO player or third generation Sony player. But since Sony has dropped DVD-Audio playback on their new second generation UBP-X700, I do not see Sony being interested in adding HDCD support.

So the Amazon UK website ended up getting this player before the Amazon USA website. The Amazon UK website will not ship a region B Blu-ray player to region A North America. People in the USA will just need to wait until Amazon gets it in stock or they can go buy it now at Best Buy.

Does the Sony UBP-X700 offer the latest VUDU and Netflix apps? The Sony UBP-X800 does not. The Sony UBP-X800 needs a firmware update since VUDU is only 1080P with Dolby Digital Plus(no 4K Ultra HD), and the Netflix app does offer 4K Ultra HD but only 5.1 Dolby Digital and no support for 5.1-7.1 Dolby Digital Plus or Dolby ATMOS. Hopefully the UBP-X700 has newer apps and not the same apps as the UBP-X800.

If x700 don't have VUDU 4K DV and Atmos app then that will force me to look at...

Compatible with 4K VOD***
The DP-UB820 and DP-UB420, both support 4K VOD*** (Video on Demand) services, offering a paramount video viewing experience for those who demand uncompromised quality in picture and sound when watching streamed content.
And I won't care if it cost $1000 plus.

Ok, almost all players can send HDCD though their digital HDMI outputs, not just Oppo.
That's what I meant, if the Oppo was decoding inside and send it through HDMI to a non-HDCD receiver or pre/pro.
Some players manipulate their digital outputs, like some Pioneer models for example.
With those, when using a HDCD receiver, you wouldn't get it decoded by the receiver, unfortunately.

Anyway, back to Sony X700 and Dolby Vision. ...Plus SACD, Netflix, Vudu, Hulu+, Amazon, YouTube, and all that 3D, 2K, 4K UHD HDR10 jazz. ...CD, DVD, audiophiles, audio files, streaming files, computer files, internet files, USB files, all type of audio and video files and codecs.

Is the Sony X700 quieter than the X800 while playing blu-rays, not that I found the X800 loud?

Guess it depends who gets there first: Sony's DV update, Atmos for ATV or Panny's players :-)

As much as I like Sony players, the one thing they don't do very well is media streaming. For that, get a dedicated media streamer, such as the latest Roku Ultra (model 4660X). You will be significantly happier.

BTW, Roku have dozens of apps and their support is phenomenal.

Ultra currently supports HDR. Be patient, as support for Dolby Vision is coming.

It's still early days for UHD media streaming.

As I've mentioned before I think picture/audio quality is excellent when I watch Amazon and Netflix on this player (the Sony that is). However I don't see this replacing ATV or other dedicated devices. Much more flexibility and larger selection of apps. Just annoying that none of these devices can currently do everything. I have the Nvidia Shield TV and ATV4K. I prefer ATV because I think the video quality is better. Nvidia has better sound though so... For Amazon/Netflix the Sony player or built-in apps in my TV are probably the best choices. ATV is just far more convenient though :-)

I wonder if the x700 processor was made to handle the extra duties of new DV profile... if its interface will slow to a crawl. I gather we will know when the DV FW has arrived

I did not find it loud at all but I could hear the disc spinning in certain scenes in a movie. Since the X700 is out now I want to make sure the X700 is no louder than the X800. I had an X800 last year but returned it due to a quick stutter about every 2 minutes during streaming Vudu content when I had 24p enabled for network content and the only workaround to the stutter was to disable 24p for network content.

Yes Sony's X700 support Dolby Vision's HDR low latency mode. At Sony's CES exhibit the X700 worked fast and very efficiently with DV content.
