Usually with those mods you press one of the color-buttons on the remote when the player is switched off, which should boot it up and set it to the appropriate region (it should be red = A, green = B, yellow = C).

Well, crap. As of today my 700 is freezing. Even on movies that it didn't freeze on before. I just got the Middle Earth set and my first freeze ever was about half way through Fellowship of the Ring extended 4K. I tried turning off DV, cleaning the disk, turning off quick start and every other thing people suggested. Nope. We need a Tesla or Dyson 4K player.

Getting a Panasonic 820 can help alleviate that problem

That looks to be the ONLY alternative since the 9000 is unavailable everywhere. I'm going to look around online tonight to be sure before I get the 820. I know I won't be buying anymore 4K discs for now.

I don’t see the 9000 in stock at Amazon, but it’s available at several retailers.

I tried connecting the HDMI audio out on my UBP-X700 directly to the soundbar, so that I could hopefully get lossless audio, but something went wrong. I got a black screen with no video but with the sound of the movie coming through. A warning on the screen said "Video signal is output via HDMI1. Audio signal is output via HDMI2."

I had to go back to ARC to get both video/audio. What did I do wrong, and is there a fix for it?

Unlucky coincidence, my 700 has started freezing as of this past weekend, first on V for Vendetta, now on Casino. I thought I was home free after the first 20 or so discs I watched on this player had no issues. Damn!

I of course bought this player because of its price point and Dolby Vision support. Is the Panasonic 820 and the $350 jump a necessary evil?

It's exactly what the player is telling you. if you are feeding the TV from the soundbar and the soundbar from HDMI 2 of the player you will have no picture as HDMI 2 on the player only outputs sound. For picture, HDMI 1 should be connected to the TV. Even if you were using HDMI1 only that should cause no problem with lossless audio. Look for the problem somewhere else, read the manual of the soundbar and the player and review your settings.

The player has two HDMI out ports, an audio one and a combined video/audio one. The HDMI video out from the player IS connected directly to the TV, although it's connected to HDMI4, one of the 2.1 ports on the set. I'm trying to get the audio directly from the player, though, not passed through the TV.

Sometimes I randomly get that screen (no soundbar here, the audio is going to my rather old AVR) and rebooting the player always fixes it. Make sure your audio output is set to HDMI2 as well. My entire setup is a bit funny when it comes to audio, probably because the AVR is old as shit and has some trouble communicating with all this new tech.

Thanks. I'll try that. My soundbar is about seven years old, so maybe that has something to do with it also.

Should I have 24p Output set to Auto or off for DVD, Data, and Network? I have it set to Auto for UHD and Blu-ray which from my understanding is correct for UHD and regular Blu-ray. My tv is the Samsung Q70R 55". I really appreciate any help here

Auto. If you set it to Off it'll output everything at 60p, and most NTSC DVDs are encoded at 24p with a pulldown flag for ancient displays that don't support 24fps.

Although this is a rare occurrence, there are some DVDs (mainly old TV shows and TV movies that were shot on film) that have a variable frame rate where most of the program material is 23.976p (with 3:2 pulldown) while portions of it are 59.94i. In my experience, these DVDs will display interlacing artifacts on the interlaced scenes with the 24p mode set to "Auto" on DVD playback (at least with standard Sony Blu-ray players, I don't know if this can also occur with their 4K players). I have a handful of DVDs in my collection that are VFR where the film itself is 23.976p FPS while the end credits are 59.94i FPS. Just thought it'd be worth pointing out.

That sounds unbelievably annoying Not that it really matters if the credits look a bit funny if the show itself looks fine, it'd be really irritating if the reverse was the case.

The player froze twice while watching Kong vs. Godzilla 4K Blu-Ray. The picture just froze after fast forwarding and the later when rewinding. I pressed the power button and tried to take the disc out but the buttons didn't do anything. I had to cut the power from the power strip.

Any theories as to why only some titles would have raised blacks in DV on the X700? I've watched many titles in DV on the player with no issues, but last night it was immediately obvious that A Quiet Place II had raised blacks, not just in the image, but the letterbox bars too.

Switching over to my 820 and the issue was gone, so it's nothing to do with the disc. Afterwards I stress tested the player with some DV UHDs that have particularly dark no light scenes that would show up any milkiness, and I only came across one (IT Chapter One) that shared the problem, which was also fixed on the 820.

Really a head scratcher to me how an issue like this wouldn't be shared across all discs.

TV is a Panny HZ2000, player led DV for both players.

For some reason, my Sony UBP-X700 cannot find my WiFi network now.

I upgraded my WiFi router not long ago. My Sony Bravia television found the connection with no trouble after that, but my player cannot find the network.

My WiFi does not even show up on the available networks selections on my X700 now.

I tried unplugging the player for 60 seconds, as per troubleshooting suggestions, but that does not work.

I just want to be sure my player is up to date with software.

The last update was around the end of August. It was M43.R.0284. If you have that firmware then your player is up-to-date.
