Should I leave "Dolby Vision Output" on or off? My x700 is connected to a TV that is not 4K.
Or do I just go by if the UHD is encoded with DV? I also noticed when I turned DV on, the displayed settings showed 60P and when I turned it off it went back to 24P. Not sure if that matters. Thanks. |

It's like a light switch--for discs with DV, the "Dolby Vision Output" setting must be manually enabled from the settings menu and then turned back off for all other types of discs, HDR or not. If left on, the player will force DV on everything you watch. Last edited by Feiereisel; 07-26-2022 at 07:18 PM. Reason: Word choice. |

first disc is Zack Snyder's Justice League disc 1, somehow there are two tiny little scratches or, more likely, defects that run in the direction of reading the disc, (radial), located almost all the way to the edge of the disc, so, perhaps it skipped on the first layer, (it was more than 40 or 50 minutes in)? I don't see how it could have gotten scratched, seems more like a defect under the top coating somewhere/somehow. I supposed there's a slight chance it could be a scratch since it's the top disc of two on a spindle, (I know it's already been said, but, WTF?). second disc is 2001 a Space Odyssey, I turned the disc over to see odd looking smudges that look almost like something growing, however, it appears the inside of the case has some kind of residue all over it, (splotchy, greasy film), and this also got on the discs. I wiped it off but haven't tried playing again as I don't recall exactly where the issue was. In both cases, after skipping once or twice it played just fine after that for the remainder. I guess 4K/UHD disc production is slightly sloppy? So I just used the term "defect" and found a couple comments about the Justice League disc 1, so, I'll try to find out what can be done when I have time. Got to get to work for now. |

I have a 4K/UHD DV capable TV and an HD projector, so I change two settings only when playing a DV disc on the DV TV, turn on DV, change the next setting to TV. I change it back to off and Projector otherwise. My projector does 3D, so, DV has to be off for 3D to work. It's kind of inconvenient, but, the player does well otherwise for the price. |

I am on my second of the players (returned the first for the freezing issues almost 2 years ago). Generally this unit has been good but I had an issue with Best Buy Exclusive Dr. Strange 2 steelbook. Froze about 5 minutes in and jumped ahead about 30 seconds. The froze dead at about the 55 minute mark. Exchanged the disc since I did not have a reason to think it was the player. New disc plays fine but froze again at almost the halfway point then jumped ahead by about 5 minutes.
Anyone else having issues w/ Dr. Strange? |

Try auto 2 and see what it looks like. With your TV not being 4K you probably won't notice any difference. If you plan on getting a 4K TV soon and it's a Sony keep the setting on auto 1, any other brand use auto 2.

Has anyone ever compared the X700 to the panasonic dp-ub450? I like my X700 aside from the annoying freeze issues on 4k discs so I'm looking for a player in the same price region that doesn't do this... Thanks!

While watching disc, use the remote’s “Options” button to bring up the A/V Settings menu. Click on Video Settings and then select “Direct.” This must be done for both UHDs and blu-rays (and possibly even DVDs), but will remain saved unless the player itself is reset. Also, it is not accessible while Dolby Vision is enabled. |
