Hello. I have been swatted recently with HDCP problems recently, the player has been acting up as of today with me, screens that used to work with this device don't work anymore, except for 4K displays. Changing resolutions doesn't fix the problem. Used to work flawlessly with a 1080p display that was being used with this player, but now it refuses to display anything at any resolution. Any advice on what can I do?

I had it freeze on all kind of movies. It depends on its mood and not solely dependent on sizs of disc.

You trying to play files through external hard drive or USB and what kind of error are you getting? Movie refuse to play at all or the sound goes off after 10 minutes?

No; No video at all when turning on device, no file playback attempted. Audio works perfecly with disc playback and exhibits no problems when outputting via the digital coaxial output. Once again, player has no problems at all when connected to a 4K TV (doesn't even have to be an HDMI 2.0 port).

Ahh, false alarm! Sorry everyone, it's been solved. All I had to do was to try another HDMI cable, apparently, which is strange because I did try it before with a completely different cable in a completely different TV and the same thing happened, but maybe it was the display that wasn't being fond of the cable. Anyways, take good care everybody!

Yes, triple-layer discs. The innermost layer of the BD100 requires the highest RPMs to spin, and it's when the player has to transition to this layer that the problems seem to occur. I don't know the exact mechanics of why Song/LG players struggle with so much, just that it is this transition that seems to be the cause of most problems.

I have no idea what is going on with some blu rays I check out, really only on recent digitally shot movies, where stuff in motion can look terrible and hurts to look at, I have no idea how to describe the effect. It happens the worst when it's a sequence at night where it ain't well lit, this stuff clumps around a moving object. I have no idea if it's the player, the disc, or my tv. It looked really really bad when I rented Nope on blu ray but had no issues when I rented top gun maverick on blu ray.

I watched Top gun today. The screen went blank for a couple of seconds but then played again.

Go to settings and turn off hdr and dolby vision and see if it helps.

Make sure you've set Picture Mode to Direct from the options popup menu. Also if your TV is Sony make sure the HDMI input is set to Enhanced mode.

THANK YOU. This looks soooooo much better in motion now. I never bothered to question what that options button on the remote control can do.

Most people don't, and I don't blame them as you wouldn't think that a Sony BD player would have noise reduction enabled by default. But they do, and it needs turning off!

Since this player doesn't automatically detect which HDR a 4k disc has therefore having to manually turn DV on or off, should I keep DV on since HDR10 only movies still play with the DV setting on or should I just deal with having to switch HDR formats every time I pop in a movie based on DV availability?

It will be more convenient for you to leave the DV option on, so you won't have to keep turning it on and off every time you're watching a DV movie because, that can get tiresome in the long run. I don't know why Sony had manufactured their 4K Blu-ray players that way in the first place with modern technology. It doesn't make sense! Every other brand automatically enables and plays DV whenever it detects a signal and transmitted to the TV.

And doing so wouldn't compromise intent? HDR10 with the DV setting on doesn't look exactly the same as when DV is turned off.

I used to have this player and yea I had to manually turn it on and off for everything I watched DV vs HDR

If a movie is HDR10 only, the player should default to HDR10 anyway, whether if the DV is on or not. I would get a different brand because, Sony had screwed up on their 4K Blu-ray players big time.

I always turn it off if I'm not playing something with Dolby Vision, because otherwise, it will force DV on whatever you're playing, even blu-rays. It's an inconvenience, but not the end of the world.
