I've friggin had it with this player. I've done everything, laser lens cleaner, cooling fan, open space to breathe, calibrated player settings, compressed air, microfiber cloths for 4k discs... This player just skips like hopscotch.
What else can I do before I just have to spring for a new player altogether? |

I have one and it has not let me down yet. It plays every disc that choked on the Sony. The only mark against the 820 is if I pause a UHD when I hit play again it will stutter for a second before starting again. Doesn't do this with BD or DVD. I also have the Panasonic DP-UB154P-K but it doesn't do Dolby Vision and isn't wireless. It also plays everything that I have thrown at it so far even without ever connecting it to the internet for firmware updates.

The thing about disc relayed glitches is that it at least has a consistency of error. When it's the player, the errors are like itches, you scratch one and another will show up elsewhere. Just gonna flex the wallet and get the 820. I've already done every economical solution. X700 is a shit player. |

Okay Nostradamus, then I simply won't get one, because that's my high end for a dedicated movie player. For $500 I will always buy another PS5/Series X/PC parts, it's just a way better value to me |

By the way setting your x700/x800 like this might reduce the chance of playback issues skip/freeze

If you set it to video then it may not properly output film-based interlaced content, though that's so rare to be watching on disc these days that it doesn't really matter.

Just wait till you see flickering DV discs, that player does have its own set of problems sadly. |

Well what are the commonality of those with the 820 that the DV flickering happens? Is it something that started after awhile or right off the bat? Does it depend on the type of tv? I played 4 movies so far with DV and no flickering happened.

I use 820 with my TCL C835 miniLED and 9000 with Panasonic GZ2000 OLED. I never really check whether I’m playing DV or HDR10 or HDR10+ but having watched a total of at least 300 4K movies on them (I watch more movies in my home theatre with projector), I never experienced flickering.

It just relates to the cadence of the source, whether it’s dealing with a video source with separate fields or a film source with complete frames (albeit still segmented into fields with an interlaced encode). If you apply the wrong cadence then you can end up with frames tearing, looking all jagged and whatnot. I’d just leave it set to Auto.

I just got this player yesterday and so far have only had an opportunity to test a few discs. I love Dolby Vision so far. However, putting in an HDR10 disc last night, the player output in DV even during playback on the HDR10 disc. I didn't realize that DV wasn't automatically toggled on and off. Has anyone found that this actually does benefit playback of HDR10 discs?
