I had problems with Elf UHD. Tried and update. Nothing. I decided to reset the player, and try an update just to see what would happen, yet the player claims it is up to date...?

There are known issues with the ELF 4K disc. It played fine on both my Panasonic UB-420 players but would freeze on my LG at around 1:19:15. I got a replacement, skipped to that timestamp on my LG player, and it played fine. I had to replace the Poltergeist disc for the same reason, and the replacement was fine.

All players brand have had their fair share of issues and Panny is not immune to it, although Sony players seems to be the worse offender judging by all the reports. If you have a Panny or Sony that doesn't have any issues, consider yourself lucky.

Welp, after 3 years and pretty much daily use my UBP-X700 bit the dust today. Only plays DVD's and CD's now.
Updated the firmware, did a factory reset and power cycled the player and no change. When I load a blu or 4k disc I can hear the optical drive mechanically struggle when reading the disc....obviously something wrong with the blu laser itself. Toying with the idea of getting another optical drive and doing the swap myself. Anyone have experience in doing so? Much more cost effective to do the repair rather than buying another or upgrading; which I may still do. For now my PS4 will carry the load for blu's, UHD's will have to wait. |

If Sony releases a new player later this year as rumored, these old players could pontentially received a firmware update since the new players will certainly get firmware updates.

I have a region free unit on the way from 220 Electronics and am looking forward to receiving it. I will let you know what my experience is with it with my LG CX 55".
I have an older SANYO FWBP807FP that won't play Region B locked BD's, which I am beginning to acquire. I still like the SANYO actually, and it has been an excellent value. I will keep it as a secondary. |
