It forces Dolby Vision on everything if DV is turned on. The only exception that I can personally recall is when I played the Sherlock TV series Blu-rays, those somehow made the player ignore forced DV and played them in SDR.
EDIT 2: I tested playback of a couple random SDR Blu-rays, with DV enabled in the settings, and it forces DV on them, as well as any HDR10 UHD Blu-ray. YMMV Last edited by BasedSPACER; 09-09-2024 at 12:50 AM. |

That video is out of whack filled with wrong information. You have to switch DV manually on/off.

Either he doesn't know what he's talking about or spreading false information. Sony players doesn't auto switch DV. There's no way around it period.

You have me interested now, Moviefan2k4. I am going to test as well. If that does work, then I think we all missed that change!
![]() Also - I am going to try those settings as well. I know that the general consensus is none of those settings typically have an impact on freezing, but if it works for you then that's awesome! Regardless, thanks for sharing video and information you found that works for you. |

I’ll try out the new settings tomorrow but I’m hopeful the actual advice is good. Mine is skipping more than it used to. Last edited by Alashington; 09-10-2024 at 07:55 AM. |

Are you flippin' shirking me?
![]() I decided to give that usb stick solution a try, after going through yet another third-layer disc freeze from my Happiness set. Replayed the chapter again where the freezing was located, with the stick plugged into the USB slot, and the movie continues to play uninterrupted. Tested on a couple other 4K 100-gb discs which were plagued with freezing before, and it's the same thing: the movie plays the whole way, even past the moment where the freezing would start. Not sure why plugging in a flash drive would absolve that issue. Is it a memory issue on the player, or some hardware shenanigan that I can't fathom? Leaving the stick in the player did exhibit a slighty oddity, and that's only in the player's system menu when I lose a signal for a brief period. Beyond that, I should probably invest in a micro flash drive and keep it in the player. Might do the same if I buy a Panasonic UHD player. Some peeps say it's more functional towards triple-layer discs, but I'm not taking any chances. |

Vincent covered this in a video on youtube at the 8 minute mark. Same applies to x700. https://www.youtube.com/supported_br...tube.com/watch Moviefan thinks it's right, because ignorance is bliss. Please don't run your x700s on all the time. Use this site to check. Takes total of 30 seconds. |

Random question. Does this player allow you to watch a disc at 1.25 or 1.5 speed with the sound still working? I’m looking for a new player and really love that function for old tv shows and commentaries but finding it’s rare.

I checked the specs for every disc I've played so far, and they've all had Dolby Vision built-in. Sadly, I did learn my player doesn't automatically adjust, which sucks...but I don't have the budget to get a more expensive player and face God only knows how many other problems.

That isn't what you indicated to people above, and you got people thinking and saying they will check if it works automatically. You said you never had to correct Dolby visions settings, etc.
This is what I corrected. No need to buy a new player, this site and it's app and changing of the setting takes 1 minute max total. |
