a user just posted this in the Panasonic thread:
So anyone that owns a Sony 4K player and has discs freezing it's pretty simple: go into settings and click screen settings. scroll down to 4K upscale setting and set it to off. next proceed to cinema conversion mode and set it to video. done. |

Thanks for the clarification. Has anyone done this update and know if it fixed the freezing issue?

I'm not saying that it hasn't been released or is vaporware, but Sony seems to be treating this with a very light touch. Maybe this time next year it will be in wide circulation. ![]() |

Adding a fan is the only snake oil that worked for my 800M2. I think it's been close to 2 years since adding the fan, so I'm getting fairly confident that it's actually working. I still occasionally (1 in 10 100GB discs or so) get a short stutter during the last layer change though.

Last night I played the Black Hawk Down 4k steelbook disc (that I recently bought along with this player) which was scratched to hell and back with literally a pit on the surface of the disc.
I didn't think I would get far but this player handled the video flawlessly. The audio was was pretty bad with lots of pauses/screeches that I attribute to the Mexican scratch factory manufacturing process. The disc is going back but the $150 I spent on this new player gets a thumbs up. My Oppo and Xbox have been great players to date. The Sony and Panasonic's of the world really have a mixed record based on reports on the net. Last edited by iaragorn1; 12-15-2024 at 06:45 PM. |

Apologies if this has been asked before, I've searched the thread and can't find the right answer.
I've recently gone 4K with this player - it's plugged into a Denon amp, to which a projector is connected. The projector is 4K and has a 4K cable, as Apple TV plays back with HDR when available. Whenever I play a 4K disc on this player, it says it's HDR>SDR on the display, even though the discs in question have HDR. I've tried fiddling with the settings, I've checked the settings on the Denon amp, but nothing seems to work. The HDMI cable says it's '8K ultra high speed', though I did try a different 4k HDMI and the result was the same. Any help gratefully appreciated! I kept thinking I wasn't seeing the 'wow' of HDR colour that others have mentioned, and now I know why... |

What would cause a player to overheat? The amount of time of a disc being played on a system? Because I put on Oppenheimer, a three-hour behemoth, and it didn't skip once. And the player's always been where it was, or has been since its moved elsewhere.
