Well I will keep testing them as I go and posting here, because it was a big issue before. But I have had nothing but good things from this player. They really should update a firmware with 4K fonts though. That ish just looks so out of place on this player and spoils its allure. I am constantly just laughing at the jaggy fonts they have that look like they were made 15 years ago. They aren't the worst, but they are still bad.

I just don't understand how after all this time nobody at Sony can be bothered to spend an hour upscaling and putting them back in. Absurd how corporations work these days.

Anyway, it's a good thing to get a 5 pack of MagicFiber cloths for your collection if dust or whatever is an issue. You never want to put dirty discs into a player. And this one covers itself pretty well so dust and what not should not be an issue. A scratch I have no idea as I have not played a disc with a light scratch yet.

I've not had any problems with scratched discs on mine, it easily chokes on greasy factory residue though. Once that's gotten out of the way, it's smooth sailing on 99% of discs (for some reason it really hates Infinity Pool though, it even froze on the first layer change the first time I played it, then shat itself on the second later change on second viewing. Probably just needs a good clean with some mild degreaser.)

i had some issues with bad boys for life 4k got steelbook birthday when came out disc froze and glitches<-when i try to watch last week

i try to rebuy standard 3 times 1 amazon with a coupon go to menu it went black, went to a local game store bought it cheap last week plays disc looks clean i think but glitches


i assumed ok maybe issues so i used up my bullmoose points get preowned get cheap and i be darn did same thing<-i inspect disc it was clean as a whistle

i gave up and just order the bluray combo walmart yesterday getting today

i don't really understand why bad boys for life 4k giving me problems i mean i had issues with harley quinn birds of prey 4k didn't work couldn't go to menu recently i had to rebuy it amazon<-4k works

it seems bad boys for life 4k is the only 4k so far i can't seem to get working other 4k's i either had to rebuy or used my microcloth whipe off no issues in past

other day i reorder back to future trilogy 4k but this time boxset since disc 1 and 2 from cardboard sleeve i have freezes and glitches a little bit hopefully they will be good when get amazon today

i do wonder folks who has bad boys for life 4k how is it these days any glitches, freezing? i should had gotten stop myself after try to get bad boys for life 4k 2nd time at that game store last week ok 4k got issues i would prob went on ahead used bulmoose points on bluray oh well

still wtf is going on with bad boys for life 4k its crazy how it won't work at all even getting clean 4k disc pre owned bullmoose past week meh

no ubpx700 m 4k player on a side note just got boxset with individual's back to future 4k no more freezing and skipping during part 1 when marty meets him mom 1st time sitting with family at table and few mins talking to doc

2nd disc no longer freezes when marty wakes up again from his mom i'll keep a close eye on part 3 if it mess up i can switch from cardboard sleeve again its very odd minus what amazon did to me bad boys for life 4ksaying Frequently returned item<-30 percent coupon thing to apply still there i assumed this is why it went to black screen to no menu

however i just don't understand why besides going game store getting standard 4k pre owned<-they had bad boys for life 4k 1 slip one wasn't i got one slip it started to do what 4k in steelbook did but still i thought even if i buy standard pre owned bullmoose using bullmoose points no issues and i did inspect disc it seems clean still issues

oh well i got bluray now i can move on you see since now i got a 4k tv with dolby vision i want to go back rewatch stuff that has dv in if its a trilogy doesn't do dv i'll go back rewatch other movies bad boys ride or die 4k is only dv it works good and combo 1st 2 movies 4k's meh

If anyone is perusing this thread trying to decide what to get, DO NOT buy this player. I’ve had 3 and they either failed or can’t play 100gb discs. Had to bail on Barry Lyndon tonight because the player just could make it through the disc. Get a Panasonic.

I have had this player for a few years now. The only time I had an issue with a disc was when I selected the option to watch the Extended Edition of Jurassic World: Dominion . Love that it has HDMI Audio out & HDMI to the TV, as my receiver is a much older THX Certified 7.1, which I use a processor to 6 stereo Amplifiers (Its an intense "Frankenstein" setup)

It seems they all just do not give a single F lol. I mean damn, that is so lazy it just kind of hurts, because I know for a fact somebody could have all the fonts upscaled in an hour, and it would only take a few more hours work to have them in the general pipeline ready to go unless something absurd is holding them back. We are not talking about large mounts of data either. The files would hardly be increased by much. They assuredly could get this done. There isn't even that much to do really. You could put the whole process on auto basically not like it needs to be perfection.

Yeah it's super lazy. But then again I think Sony and Panny are even using decade+ old OS software/firmware in these players. I had a Sony Blu ray player from around the time the PS4 came out and the X700 UI looks almost the same. Even when I had the Vita TV it was still using the PS3 UI it looked like.

Yeah playback so far has been perfect on the U, but good lord it definitely looks and feels a decade or more old. Crazy.

How many 100gb discs have you tested so far? The reviews of the new model on amazon.de (X700K in EU) seem positive as well, and some specifically note the freezing issue of previous models has been fixed.

My Sony X700 has been freezing a lot lately. Interstellar, Jurassic Park (from the new steelbook) and Harry Potter 1 all froze and I had to restart the player to get it back playing.

I assume it’s because these are 100gb discs?

I have played 10 so far watched 5 of them. Just haven't had the time atm. No issues at all. I am pretty particular too so discs get wiped by MagicFiber cloth and I try to keep the inside as clean as possible. Might watch another one tonight IDK. If people are worried might want to wait a bit lol because we all know how this goes. But yes it's been a very nice player so far. Just watch out for fingerprints on the shiny plastic because they ain't coming out.

I'd easily say it's the best player in the 300 range right now IF it continues to play without issues. SACD playback, upscaling, and solid 100GB performance put it among the best players out there if you ask me. If they updated the fonts it would be superior. If they also updated the build quality to stainless steel then it would be an ideal player. But hey I got this for 170 after discount from Amazon. I can't complain atm.
