I think most people are waiting for the price to drop. They remember the x800 selling for $150 and the they think because of the size the X700 should be selling for substantially less. I predict by Thanksgiving the X700 will be about $100.

X800 $150 is a steal. Compared to it's x800 $299 today(Best Buy).

At $150 I would buy it x800 just to play HDR10 Disc. Dolby Inc is still working on DV Mapping to get rid of rising blacks on letterboxes from DV Disc to some Displays.

Although DV Disc PQ is Amazing... some peoples reported there are some, few HDR10 Disc movies that looked better.

you're asking the wrong questions.

why would anyone be buying the x700 today when it doesn't do Dolby Vision yet, and the X800 was $150 at Christmas?

These x700s will be flying off the shelves in 9 months when they hit holiday pricing. This stuff is cyclical. Prolly 7 or 8 outta 10 people only buy these things around or after Black Friday. It's not anyone's first rodeo. If you're looking for deals on 4K players in February then you're doing it wrong.

So, if I have a Sony 75XBR900e which I know won't get DV, should I still be looking at the x700 because of the updated NetFlix, Vudu and Amazon apps?

If streaming is important to you, then yes X700.
X800 owners have had problems with apps I believe.
Some have even turned off internet connection to solve disc reading problems. Just read back thru the X800 thread.

Apps are a personal thing depending of your own setup and internet speed.
Your TV might already have all what you want.
The 700 apps age slightly improved over the 800, some. To me it does not matter, to you I cannot say...that's what I meant.

4K players are selling for their apps. Oppo is not playing that game, it's playing the universal game with Dolby Vision, and no apps.
The Sony 700 is also playing the Dolby Vision game of the future, plus the apps game.
Sony overall is playing games with their customers who bought the 1000ES and 800 players. Now they are playing a new game with the 700. You'll see in January 2019.

But yes, if apps is your thing the 700 seems to have a very slight advantage over the 800, only you knows exactly if that slight difference is worth it...that's what I meant.

For me it is not, but for John Doe it is. Why can't Sony update their older players from last year to follow today's trends in apps? Because they want to sell cheaply build players with incentives. Here they give you couple refined touches in apps plus Dolby Vision readiness which you cannot take advantage yourself. Just for the apps $250 is a bit much to me; the 800 on sale makes more sense, and that way I play my own game with Sony, but it is still Sony's main game. Because they won't update the apps in it, they want me to buy their new 700 for that.

Only you knows best. You have your own TV, your own modem, your own internet plan, your own Wi-Fi transmission, etc., etc.,etc. You also live in an area different than others where apps can vary all over the map on their performance and issues. It becomes a regional thing, a more personalised feature, a climate thing, a connection provider service, ...it all depends.

For streaming apps. look no further than the latest iteration of Roku Ultra.

I have no faith in any BD player streaming apps because of who maintains the source video library, which is of secondary concern to them.

Any news at all about Roku Ultra to receive Dolby Vision Firmware?

Or will that only be with the next Roku generation model.

Not sure if x700 Netflix App support DV. But my LG UP970's Netflix App supports DV.

I have 2 Sony TVs, and LG TVs. Quite a few Sony Disc players. The UP970 is for my LG DV TVs(cource that won't play DV on Sony low latency DV TVs).

Netflix DV on Disc Players is the Bomb. And its PQ is better than the App found on LG OLEDs.

I was just going to say that, and it costs less than $250, and you have support, not like from Sony.

Translated Summary Para

Quote:
The UBP-X700 is optically simple, very compact and functional. Superfluous luxury is missing, everything you need is there. The upscaling of Full HD content to 4K succeeds the UBP-X700 very well, with natural sharpness and low Scalingrauschen. Here you notice practically no difference to more expensive models. The presentation of YouTube material, which is available in full HD and extrapolated, gives no cause for complaint. A special noise reduction circuit for IP content works very effectively. Ultra HD Blu-rays are displayed with a sharp and fine image in conjunction with a correspondingly high-quality TV. Criticisms are the lack of display too sensitive drive. Here it is worthwhile, before reading in a disc this again with a suitable cloth which removes the dust from the disc medium wipe. This is especially important with Ultra HD Blu-rays. It is a pity that the Dolby Vision update will not be available until the summer, as there are already numerous Dolby Vision coded contents. Overall, an entry-level Ultra HD BD player with an excellent picture, and we expect it will soon be available for around 200 EUR.

Can't Hardly wait for peoples audition of the x700's Dolby Vision experience. We can all pretty much gather thats it going to be wonderful.

If CES is close. I have to know whats Sony's DV Flagship will be.

Anyone hear anything about or think that in addition to the DV update this player will get HDR10+? Am tempted to finally buy this player but would really like it to cover all the bases.

There is NO indication that Sony is interested in HDR10+. No connections were referred to at CES that Sony wants to join the Samsung wagon train.

Panasonic is where you should look as they have announced players to support HDR10, HDR10+, and Dolby Vision. Or there will be Samsung players for 10+, but a lot of members here dislike their past Samsung player experiences and won’t touch them again. Course, others still like Sammy players, could be sort of like a lotto.

Yeah I actually have two Sammy's. They started out great but firmware updates started introducing playout issues for me that I wasn't getting prior nor did I get when using the same disc on my Sony. Support was no help when I told them I had two of the same Samsung players one upgraded, one not and the issue was only occurring on the upgraded one. Even when I told them I then upgraded the second player and it began to experience the same playout issue, they through their hands up in the air. Not a Samsung fan.

what is the benefit of separating HDMI video/Audio? My receiver is Denon AVR-X6400H, will i get better picture/sounds if set to pass-through?

I think it was done to allow non 4k receivers to get the audio and then the 4k picture goes to the TV. If the receiver can't pass the 4k video that would be an issue. My receiver can pass the 4k, but I have them split as well.
