That's what I think. It would be nice but I thought they already killed that idea some time ago.

Well I wish I had paid more attention to this part of the forum... wasn't aware that there is finally another DV UHD player other than the Oppo. Just bought an Xbox One X, but if I can sell my S 2TB for a decent price I will probably replace it with this.

They also killed 3D.

Anything can happen, even the dead's resurrection. There are no laws in audio/video...only what sells for a profit...what they want to sell.
Us we just buy what they convince us the most, not what we truly like.

If the X800 gets Dolby Vision, be it...that'll make two...with the X700.
Just don't count on anything, on anyone, ever. ...Except your Mom and Dad.

Nope. Summer of 2018 is the company line.

LG has DV on their 970 if you are in a rush.

Ridiculous, glad I didn't get one. What is the excuse for all of this?

SlaughterX
Think there are 3 brands disc players able to play DV now. Today.

Today none of those 3 brands will play DV onto Sony DV TVs. One of those 3 brands are working on a Implementation to play DV onto Sony DV TVs. How long for a good working DV disc playback who knows as LOTR say.

However many of us have also the LG DV TVs. And many brands disc players TODAY plays DV onto those

Lol, the Sony X700 in comparison to the Panasonic 9000 and Oppo 205.

I really, really wanted this player for my bedroom DV 5.1.2 setup, but, no DV and I've waited long enough for the firmware I decided to go with the Philips BDP-7502. it has the DV firmware available for downloading. I do hope that the X700 gets it's firmware and soon too. here is what I had to say about the Philips player.

good luck to current X700 users and future users with the DV upgrade.

I ended up returning mine. I hooked it up to my LG OLED B7A and found the picture quality kinda washed out compared to same title streamed via Apple TV 4K.

I apologize if this has been covered but I have a quick question: what settings offer the best picture quality for this unit? I've seen a few comments implying that the upscaling option somehow makes the picture worse (?), so I'm just curious if I should go with the Auto resolution option or fixed 4K with the upscaling turned off. Any answer (and explanation) would be much appreciated!

I was having trouble playing Star Wars the Last Jedi on my Phillips 4K player, It just wouldn't play the movie, it got stock on the menu. I checked BestBuy for a new 4K player and they had the Sony 700 on sale so I decided to give it a try. I tried some UHD movies I have on Vudu, some looked better than others but Lucy totally freaking blew me away. Then I watched some parts of Thor: Ragnarok on the actual player. It was like watching it for the 1st time, beautiful pic, colors I didn't notice before. It's like night and day compared to the Phillips, hahaha....I only tried Vudu, didn't try Netflix or Amazon since I already have that on another player so cant comment on that...overhall I'm happy with my purchase.

If you're connecting it to a 4K TV then selecting Auto resolution or fixed 4K will give you 4K no matter what you view. The separate upscaling settings (Auto1/Auto2/Off) won't matter a jot if the output is set to anything else than Auto resolution, and even then those upscaling settings only work with Sony TVs. I explain what they do here: https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...1#post14754676

Boy, Sony made this aspect of their 4K players so needlessly convoluted, the upscaling setting in particular which is beyond useless.
