The 4K Ultra HD OPPO UDP-203 is now out of production and OPPO is leaving the consumer electronics business. I am glad that Sony has released a second generation 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray player. However, I am disappointed that the second generation Sony UBP-X700 lacks HDR10+ and no support for DVD-Audio discs.
Hopefully in 2019 Sony will release a third generation 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray player. There is always a possibility that one day Sony and Panasonic might stop production on 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray players as more consumers use streaming that is built into flat panel screens. In theory Sony and Panasonic should see some increased sales as consumers that would have purchased a OPPO 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray player will instead purchase a Sony or Panasonic. |

Robert, have you (or anyone else, really) heard anything more on the potential release window for the DV update on this player??
I know the marketing was keeping it vague at "Summer", but you had said on a few posts that you had heard from Sony that April was more likely. Just wondering if that's still the case, or if it's been pushed back. |

Yeah. Still haven't seen anything new on my end. Other than CNET's review of the player (it's their favorite of Sony's, and one of their favorite UHD players overall). Which itself only says that DV is due "by mid-year". So still just "Summer 2018" :/

Summer 2018. That could be Summer month August.
Sony do have to make probably lots S/W or F/W changes for x700 to accomodate their Sony Low Latency DV TV's. Being that Low Latency DV is barebones. |

Considering they would have known their TVs were LL-DV before those patches were released, and thus long before the release of the X700, it's more likely they're giving themselves the best window possible to avoid being a repeat of LG's 970. With a FINAL DV (without being immediately pulled) update not coming until a year or more later.

Has the 2016 Sony Z9D got their Final version DV? Will other brand DV Players work on it now today playing DV disc? If the Sony x700 has its first DV FW this Summer will the 2016 Z9D then need another DV FW update to work?
I have a Sony TV and am looking at the exciting new new X1 Ultimate Processor Chip Sony DV TVs as they hit the stores(930F, Z9F, etc). Which I don't know if they are/will be DV Ready out the box. These new Sony TVs I gather Sony wants them to work on all brands DV Disc Players? So as to make the Mass Market Consummers happy? But I don't really know. Some insiders on this forum might share their knowledge Last edited by E6AtmosVuduDV; 05-04-2018 at 05:52 PM. Reason: Finishing |

Maybe Sony x700 will be the first to work. Is it going to be an Easy Task for Sony Software/FW Engineers?

I’ve only used the orginal Xbox One and mostly have used Chromecast. I just recently got this player. Is it just me or does the menu and everything look horrible. Like the screen that displays the apps, when you press pause, even when you go into Netflix the pictures look horrible. The actually video looks fine it is just the whole interface. Also WWE network looks really bad. The menu and the picture. Is this normal? I can still return it and plan on doing so this weekend. My TV is a 2016 Vizio M series.
I’m strongly considering the LG UBK90. Lets say the x700 had Dolby Vision today. Of the two, which player is the best? I’ve tried doing a ton of research but I still can’t come to a decision. |

I’m not exactly sure what that is I googled it and I don’t believe I do. I’m not an expert at this stuff. I’m really just looking for a good 4K player that has Dolby Vision, can upscale Blu Rays, and some streamings options with Dolby Vision and HDR because I can Chromecast in 4K with my TV but not HDR or Dolby Vision.

Has anybody figured out what the deal is with 4K UHD looking washed out? I see people inquiring about this problem with XBOX and various stand alone players, but I have yet to see a definitive answer. Most people suggest that it's an issue with a tv not being able to display HDR, but I know that's not the case as I have an LG OLED that says it is displaying HDR while the picture looks faded in comparison to the same 1080P BD. If you do a Google search, this is obviously not an isolated issue, as it is happening on different brands of 4K televisions using a variety of players. There has to be a logical explanation by now... and no, it has nothing to do with your set being professionally calibrated or not.

Just curious; why? I've yet to read a review about this new LG, but their previous effort left a lot to be desired from what I saw on various forums.
The X700 has some great reviews and as an owner, I can vouch for how good it is; runs quietly, starts up very fast and certainly delivers on disc and app 4k HDR playback. @bluballs, I have an LG and haven't encountered this issue at all. Mine is a 2016 LG C6 |

I have an LG B6, but from what I have read online, this has happened to owners of Sony and Samsung LED sets as well. One thread even noted the same issues from streaming 4K on apple products. I'm not sure which page it's on, but someone in the UBP X800 thread had the same problem (last year) with faded and washed out picture. I was curious if that person was able to resolve their issues. I am using a Sony UBP X800 btw.

Or it's a situation where the tv isnt capable of producing bright enough whites. Some TVs just dont handle hdr well. Or it's a situation where people incorrectly think hdr should look overcooked and hypercolored and when they see it with their incorrect expectations they are disappointed. I thought there was something wrong when I first got my samsung tv and sony 800 player but I came to realize that HDR is a different beast than I thought it was. And my samsung just wasnt very good at handling hdr. Now that I've got a sony 930e the hdr is bright and colors pop and standout. |
