Best buy has it on sale for 199. Going today for price match, sale ends today I think.

You still have to time price match it. I went there today and price matched it to 199, purchased a few more 4k blu rays with the difference. I purchased it last week, knowing they would have a sale for memorial day. Elite members get 30 days return and price match guarantee. I think others get 14 days to do so.

Except I bought it at Amazon.com from a marketplace vendor and they don't do price matching.

We haven't received the Dolby Vision firmware update yet. It will come eventually, but I do have one concern:

When I bought this 4K player I owned the Sony 900F which was due to receive a DV update soon and I had little concern that DV wouldn't work once both units received their firmware updates.

Since then I have returned my 900F and replaced it with the LG B7A OLED TV.

Do I have any reason to be concerned that DV may not work with my LG TV given Sony's thus far very spotty history with DV.

The insider messages seem to be consistent that the X700 will support both Full Profile DV as well as Low Latency profile.

It has been confirmed that the x700 will have Dolby Vision support for other non-Sony, DV-capable televisions once it gets updated.

IMHO there is just many people thinking that supporting DV in a TV is akin to the same in a player, well it isn’t. If they market a product as supporting DV it will have to support all TV’s.

Sony beat Oppo to the finish line in the player race for DoVi on LL.
Waiting to hear from the users about PQ impressions with the Sony.

Makes ya wonder if Sony didn't slip Dolby a few Benjamin's under the table to make sure they get DV before Oppo.

oppo's not making players anymore, I wonder if they really care. congrats to the X700 owners, does it work well with Sony TV's that have DV support?

now that this appears to have the DV update, I have something else to think about. I want a second DV capable player and I already have the Philips in the bedroom. if the reviews on the DV capability (and the overall player reviews) are good, maybe i'll give this Sony a shot.

Some observations from petetherock (AVS)
  • BTW if you enable DV, you lose 3D capability.. you have to enter the menu settings to disable DV. silly move Sony.
  • Another thing : if you enable DV, all discs get converted to it! Even a regular blu ray disc !

Q. (elwaylite/gadgtfreek) Are you able to enable DV and disable it? Meaning can you turn DV off and play a DV disc and it sends HDR10?
  • Yes, but it's a real pain - you have to go deep into the settings to change it..it's not automatically tagged to DV equipped discs only

Sorry Bud, the USA side is changing roles, not disappearing.

Now I do have a real question for people that update whether it is working correctly with the various displays?

Why because of these two posts

Quote:
It's a terrible image sorry, but it works on my Sony Z9D!
Do note, you have to play with the settings on your AV amp.. initially the screen was blank!
I plugged it into the TV directly and it worked, but when I included the amp, it was a blank screen!
So I went into the settings and choose video output to be 4.2.0
Then voila!

Bear in mind that you may need a new 4k Premium cable, there's this whole HDMI voodoo thingy..
Quote:
YAY! LG C6, vudu on X700, played the Dark Knight to test DV for the obvious difference in black level. and this...

Now back to work.
