I had the X800 and loved it. I hated the fact that Dolby Vision wasn’t coming to the player so I sold it to a buddy and got the X700... The X700 is just as great as the X800 if you’re only using it to watch 4K movies. Which I do. Hopefully the Dolby Vision patch will be coming soon!

That's a great way of handling it. I thought about doing the same thing selling my x800 to a buddy for $100 but I can't bear to part with it yet.

I'm having troubles getting HD MA on this player. Just hooked it up a hour ago or so and all I did was hook up my HDMI and all I get is PCM. Even a non 4K not getting HD MA or True Dolby. I went through all the settings and everything looks good. Did my firmware update and nothing. Help me out here??

When did it come out? Also, how do I change it in my settings to do DV instead of HDR10? I apologize for the dumb questions!!

I really lucked out to be honest. I originally bought the x800 on sale for $179. Sold it to my buddy for $150 and got the x700 on sale for $149.

I'm really torn between getting the X800 or X700. On the one hand; I like the build quality of the X800 but I'm put off by the user reports of it freezing up and needing to be unplugged and restarted. On the other hand; I like the fact that the X-700 is cheaper and is Dolby Vision capable but it looks like a typical later generation player where they cut corners in build quality. My tv is a couple of years old (LG UH8500) that I think supports Dolby Vision but how desirable is it to have that capability? I want to get one of these players fairly soon before my window of opportunity (Father's Day) closes but I'm no closer to a decision now than I was a couple of weeks back.

Audio Settings, page 21.
It is Off by default but you want to make sure.
It's on your screen setup menu > Audio Settings > BD Audio MIX setting > Off

note :: your display does support Dolby Vision (please note :: i mistakenly indicated otherwise; originally - the correct information was established in following posts, so i have edited this line of information to avoid further confusion from my originally incorrect information, which i apologize for having done)

UBP-X700 (build quality) :: it's fine (not an issue)

note :: i have two Sony UBP-X800, that i hardly use (comparisons/research) that i really do like (not that this really matters) :: while they're not perfect (Dolby Vision/intermittent inconveniences) i like them enough to keep them (as a cost?)

If you have the 800 and your TV is Dolby Vision supported, wait for boxing day and get the 700. Check the Dolby Vision picture and see if you like, and keep the player(s) you prefer. ABC ... easy.

Sony is not going anywhere; they'll have new DV players eventually, just like Panasonic, and unlike Oppo.

I think I got it working. I forgot to setup my TV viewing settings. It was set to 480p. After changing to 1080p it made a HUGE difference and got my sound back......Thanks for the help...

Ok cool; video settings to higher definition and you got audio to higher resolution, I like.

That's strange-I went back and looked at a review from Sound&Vision and they had it supporting both HDR10 and Dolby Vision but if it doesn't that would be one less reason to opt for the X700.

Your TV certainly supports Dolby Vision:

The Sony X700 also supports Dolby Vision.

So, they both have matching DNA.

Dolby Vision (my apology) :: it certainly supports Dolby Vision (so much for being in error)

note :: i intend to try to withdraw my post if possible or do whatever i can to avoid further confusion (on my part)

my sincerest apology; i was in error (your display does support Dolby Vision)

regarding the Sony BDP-X700, given your display does support Dolby Vision, it should be your choice
